Tourism is all about hype. And while most places have god and bad parts, the draws themselves vary wildly. Some destinations are so high-priority that you end up paying 40 bucks just to wait in line for three hours. Other places are so full of people trying to make a quick buck that you could end up having a random guy lead you down an alley, tell you it's in some way significant, then extort you for your 40 bucks. Other times, the attraction itself is so small, old, or generally lacking in character that you can look at it all you want and still feel like you'll never get your 40 bucks worth.
Sure, there are tons of places that are worth visiting. And some cities with garbage attractions have other ones that make the trip worth it anyway. But just remember that Mount Rushmore and the Mona Lisa are way smaller than you think they're gonna be.
