It's easy to forget that a "standard way of living" is completely up for debate, and that it's at least a little different everywhere you go. Especially since American tourists are notorious for doing obnoxious things, it can be easy for us to get caught up in our own little worlds and have a hard time accepting the great big one that we're actually a part of.
Being in a different place is a terrific reminder that, not only is the world a big place, but it's also an old place. It's wacky to consider that you could find yourself walking on a road that was paved by Romans, or that you might end up eating at a restaurant that's been open for 600 years. And then there are the small things, like how nobody drinks root beer over there. Now what's this we're hearing about all this vacation the get?
But if you're an American who wants to feel some national pride, here are some particular things America has that Europe doesn't.
