Family photos can be an especially strange matter. Some folks really get in to making a whole tradition out of the dang thing. It sounds like this guy and his family have a potentially well founded superstition that's rooted in the belief that one's significant other can't be in the family photo unless the relationship's surpassed a year. Otherwise, apparently everything goes to sh*t.
