If you get a job in the service industry it's not totally out of the question that you might encounter some testy characters that are determined to make everyone else's lives a bit more miserable and uncomfortable, simply because they absolutely despise their own jobs. You can develop quite the thick skin, and spicy banter to boot, if you work long enough in the industry. You learn how to let the infuriating interactions with entitled customers not totally get to you, while you juggle various rare insults from your fellow coworkers. It can be quite the scene. It sounds like these dudes were eventually able to squash their beef and some kind of friendship developed as a result.
