In March 2016 the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) held an online poll for the naming of a $250 million research vessel. Unsurprisingly, the winning name was the hilariously inane 'Boaty McBoatface'. NERC declined to name the boat this and instead opted to name it the 'RRS Sir David Attenborough' and awarded the name 'Boaty McBoatface' to a smaller submarine.
It seems that government agencies still haven't learned their lesson about online polls. The local Sydney government sought the internet's thoughts on what they should name a new ferry.
Guess what won?
We present to you: 'Ferry McFerryface'
