‘I had a very misogynistic boss’: 'Good 'Ol Boy' manager finally gets busted for taking credit of female employee's work thanks to the IT department

The work culture might be changing these days in a more positive direction, at least in work edict. However, it still has a very long way to go and even when you just think back to the early '00s, we were still dealing with some pretty serious injustices in the workplace. For example, how women employees were treated. Harassment aside, they also just weren't taken seriously. It was extremely unfair and usually ended up with many females quitting or just never getting the justice they deserved. 

One woman on Reddit recently shared her story of defeating misogyny in the workplace and it is simply *chef's kiss*! She worked in a company in the early oughts that was mostly employed by men. And not just any old dudes, but extremely misogynistic men who believed women didn't belong in the workplace because they were too "emotional." (Even though testosterone is the hormone that makes anybody emotional and men are packed chalk full of that, but that's for another discussion…) She wasn't the revolutionary type and just kept her head down while she worked. Unfortunately, her misogynistic boss made sure he got credit for all the hard work she did and she didn't get any say in the matter. 

However, one day the president had a question about some numbers that she wrote, but he didn't know she wrote them. So he called in her toxic manager and he made a clown out of himself, unable to answer one question. The president called in IT and they were able to find the source of the work, and it was the female employee. The president called her in and she was able to answer all his questions and then some. 

That toxic manager got his butt chewed up and spit out back to him and then demoted. She had a pretty pleasant work environment for the rest of the time she was there. Excel really was fighting misogyny in the workplace since the early 2000s.

Many people during their college years take a job to cover their expenses while they study for their eventual full-time career. For example, you don't need a 4 year degree to wait tables or deliver pizza, so you pick up this kind of service industry job while you continue your education in something that does require multiple years of education like a doctor or lawyer. 

Yes, that's right, even future lawyers work in service industry while they're in school (except for like rich nepo-babies..). And for any toxic manager out there, we hope you hire a law student and get your tush served back to you when you try to pull some illegal crap on your hardworking employees. This is exactly what happened with Reddit poster u/Old-Invite3028. The Redditor is in law school and working a side gig as they take their classes. The manager tried to pull some a shady fast one and said if employees continued to not clock in or out properly, there would be financial punishment. 

This law student epically messaged back with out any care in the world saying, "I swear I'm not trying to be obtuse but I'm in law school so whatever, the withholding of wages for the reason of disciplinary action is illegal." BOOM. They didn't share their management's response, but the Redditor knew it wasn't going to be pretty and didn't even care.

People used to give their spouses flowers after a big argument, but this husband chose to "write" an apology letter instead. 

As of this writing, ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence models are still pretty new to most people. They're finding more and more usage everyday, from editing photos to writing unique copy. Lots of people have also been using it for random everyday things, like writing summaries or even churning out work reports for them. Its usefulness seems endless! 

This man flew too close to the sun, though. He tried to get ChatGPT to write out the kind of note that you should really and truly write out yourself, not get someone else to write for you. 

While we're on the subject of things you should and shouldn't say to your significant other…These people felt comfortable sharing some relationship secrets with Reddit, but they'd never dare tell their spouse in person! 

'My home, my rules': Grown millennial daughter uses malicious compliance to get her boomer mom, a 40+ year smoker, to quit smoking

Sometimes you have to get a little feisty to help someone you love. When the end justifies the means, ya know? This is exactly what one grown millennial daughter did for her boomer mothers. 

The adult millennial, Reddit user @Ambitious-Writer-825, posted something to the subreddit r/MaliciousCompliance, but a different type of story than the usual one you see on that thread. Usually you see someone using malicious compliance for exactly what it defines to, complying but only with malicious intent. However, this millennial may have felt malicious in her actions and conveyed that it felt more like petty revenge, but her "malicious compliance" actually had benevolent outcomes. 

The millennial daughter grew up in a household with the classic boomer parenting rule, "my home, my rules." It's probably safe to say that most millennials heard at least once in their life, "as long as you're under MY roof! bla bla bla." So, when this millennial daughter grew up, found her own home, and started her own family, she decided that this rule would not just apply to her kids, but to her own parents. She had just had a baby and the mother wanted to spend time with her grand-baby. However, this boomer mother, now grandmother, was a very heavy smoker. So the new mom laid down the rule that her own mother set when she was a child of having to abide by the rules of the homeowner. So she told her she could not smoke around the baby, ever, and she couldn't get wear clothes that she had smoked in previously if she wanted to be near the baby. 

The boomer mother was flabbergasted that her own rule came back to haunt her as a grandma, but she couldn't turn back on her words now. So this "malicious" compliance (or should we say benevolent compliance?) helped a boomer grandmother who had been an avid smoker for 40+ years quit cold turkey.

'I suspect workers are sabotaging equipment just to meet the quota': Bizzare safety procedures at work cause cobra effect, corporate bit by malicious compliance

Malicious compliance is often used when the employees feel like they have no other choice than to obey the ridiculous rules management creates on the different whims they have. And boy does management have whims… they don't always necessarily make a lot of sense. In this case, industrial workers began to literally break safety equipment, and fix it, just to write a safety violation report. A new employee who was not informed of this was absolutely flabbergasted.

The same mantra had apparently been going around his office: keep your eyes open, and the violations will appear. In his own words, 'I was the last one to use this ladder the day before, and it was perfectly fine, which lead me to my conclusion that this man was purposely SABOTAGING company equipment just so he can fix it and then write a safety violation report. I feel like I'm in an episode of The Office'.

'Management Uno reversed them': Entire team quits toxic workplace simultaneously, management "rejects" resignations and fires them anyways

In the U.S., each state has their own employment laws to protect both employers and employees. Unfortunately, employers are the ones with all the money, so things tend to fall in their favor over the hardworking employees. Recently, a woman shared her quitting saga on her TikTok. She worked for a non-profit that used business practices that she said "did not align" with her ethically. The work environment became more and more toxic and her and her entire team had had enough. You can see this happening in real time on this woman's TikTok profile, because she posted videos from her getting ready to give her 2-weeks, her and her entire team giving their 2-weeks, and then getting the letter saying they "rejected" their resignations and are terminated. The company really pulled an Uno reverse on them. 

She says the termination letter is not only a slap to the face with disrespect, it was also riddled with grammatical errors. The company really scrambled to put that letter together. However, she was ready to go no matter what and seems happier than ever. Viewers comment on her video encouraging her to take legal actions calling it "retaliation" which is illegal. Others are saying she should be happy that the "Uno reversed" her because now she should be able to collect unemployment. 

She continues to post videos about her adventure down this new path after leaving her job, but one this is for sure, even though it didn't go down as she was hoping, she was still happier than ever to leave that place. So really, Uno reverse on the company because joke's on them, she's into not working for them!

Tips were good, they never bothered him, so he stuck around. However, this week, his gaggle of useless managers banned together and decided to get the team in on doing a couple days deep cleaning for the bar. Service would be closed to guests and employees were expected to work for two consecutive 10 hour days at their HOURLY rate. 

For Dennis, that meant he would be making $6/hour– half the standard minimum wage in Michigan.

Cue the ultimatum. The management noticed how upset their staff was about this (who wouldn't be pissed?) and instead of hiring a professional cleaning company like a real business, they made the spring cleaning mandatory. Anyone who opposed would be fired immediately. Dennis wasn't having that. He had had enough of their hooliganry and decided to take a stand. At the end of the day, it really just goes to show that people don't read signs and will go to great lengths to prove a silly point rather than admit that they were in the wrong. Ultimately, I gave in to the bullying and extortion and paid the fraudulent fines so they'd stop ticketing me daily. 

That's why it's always cathartic to see a story like this from someone who actually managed to get one up on their local parking enforcement. This thread was shared on Reddit's r/MaliciousCompliance by Redditor u/Zenon_Czosnek, who shared how they managed to use the parking enforcement agencies' own tactics against them.

'Your employment [...] is being terminated for job abandonment': Employee resigns, then hears from HR 2 years later saying they were fired

Imagine quitting your job and moving to an entirely different city and then all of a sudden two years later, you hear back from your former employer. It's not a message to wish you well, and it's not even a question about a previous project from when you were employed there. No, of all things, it was a letter of termination on the grounds of "job abandonment." Come again?

 

The Redditor mentioned that their former boss was a bit disorganized, to put it lightly. That certainly explains a lot. How could he have messed this up? OP also revealed in a comment that they weren't a salaried employee and it's not like they were receiving pay after they quit, so there was simply no sign of this coming. Our main take on this is that HR is definitely up to something fishy here for their official records. The good news, and something OP should really remember, is that this bears literally no effect on their future employment.

We all know that Karens can be audacious, to say the least, but have you ever come across a Karen who tried to take a wheelchair from someone who actually needs one? Well, that's exactly what happened at this antique store. 

 

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/EntitledPeople subreddit by u/ArtisticPain2355, a woman who rents a display space in said antique store and who also is a wheelchair user. Tired old Karen needed to take a break from walking in this rather large store and started inquiring about wheelchairs so she can continue shopping without having to stand. After the Redditor informed tiny old Karen that she can speak to a staff member but the store doesn't have wheelchairs on hand, tired old Karen had the actual nerve to ask if she could take the Redditor's very own wheelchair. Why is it that the people who do the most work never seem to get noticed? This is 1000% the definition of a toxic working environment, and yet there are still tons of managers and bosses out there who wholeheartedly follow that. As if your job is only to make them look good, and if you stop trying to make them look good then you're fired, but if you work harder to make them look good, then you can stay right there exactly where you are with no promotions or raises and definitely no acknowledgement of your hard work. The work force is changing these days and more and more places are putting their employees well-being first. But it's a slow change and unions are usually implemented to make sure greedy companies don't abuse their workers. 

So when a boss recently tried to pull a quick one on an union contracted-employee, you better believe he was not having it. As he posted to Reddit, he shared exactly what he said to his boss, even after the union had already explained it to him. Though the employee is known for being hard working and a good employee, one day he got in trouble for being on his phone. So his boss sent him home after only three hours of his shift. His boss tried to only pay him for those three hours, but the employee made sure he was going to get his money. His union contract clearly states that if he is sent home by the boss, then he still gets paid for the full day, regardless.

'You don't get a refund': Guy exploits returns loophole to get his money back

Some retail companies have stupid rules; there's just no way about it… this seems to be particularly common when it comes to returns. To a degree, this is fair; they've got your money, you've got your stuff—it's done, and any interaction they have with you once that transaction is complete will cost them money. 

If you've got an issue with your product, they'll have to take the time and resources to address that. But returning a product is worse; they have to take the time and resources again, except have the added disadvantage of losing a sale and needing to restock that item—which may no longer be in "brand new" condition. From their point of view, maybe you should have considered your purchase for a bit longer before making it. 

Still, the qualifiers companies come up with for returns can be baffling, making the requirements as complex as possible to discourage returners. "You can only return your item if you clap three times on the eve of the full moon while singing a ballad and shaking a tambourine."

This customer, u/dubilendar, got fed up with a store's extremely specific returns policy and decided to work a loophole in order to get their money for their return, sharing their experience to Reddit's r/MaliciousCompliance subreddit afterward.

But in today's day and age, we don't really have a choice in the matter. How else are we supposed to meet people?

What, like just approach someone in real life? Now I'm scoffing. As if. All our bravery is long gone, climbed out the window like a moody teenager who didn't get their way. Telling someone you like them face to face seems like something straight out of a fairytale. So we're gonna have to suffer in silence and swipe away until we reach that dreaded swipe limit.
