Redditors sounded off the comments of this r/AskReddit post when u/wildwoodflower_ asked, "What's a food combo you love that people think you're weird for?" The combinations ranged from lightly weird to "I cannot believe you'd ever think to pair those two ingredients." 

Naturally, some food pairings might make you squeamish, but might just be an every day meal to people in other countries or cultures. One great example was putting plain yogurt on rice. It seems like an odd combo at first, but that's the base of lots of food dishes already!

At this moving company, the boss isn't going to let his employees get taken advantage of. Most rules are there because of previous situations that necessitated them, as this boss proved to his employee. 

User u/_korvan_ shared a story from their youth, some 30 years ago, when they took a job as a mover at age 16. While there, they had to deal with their fair share of entitled people. The OP shared that they and their boss showed up to one house that had a double door at the front of the house — perfect for the two of them to carry in a sofa bed. But no, not at this Karen's house!

This rich woman's workers insisted that there was no way the OP could use those large double doors. Why? Just because Karen said so. Instead, they were directed toward a spiral staircase. Insanity! The OP shared the delicious malicious compliance that followed… always read your contracts, people. 

Then, read this story of this nurse who just wanted to park their car, but kept getting targeted by their local HOA. 

'I did this for the last 2 years and no one said a word': Company Fires a Warehouse Employee Without Warning for Taking Too Many Smoke Breaks, Claiming He Was a "Time Thief" and Owed Them $290 in Labor Losses

Work can get boring sometimes, especially when the bulk of your job is to sit around and wait for things to happen. For one man, a warehouse quality control guy (u/Gasp32), his daily life was ruled by grueling 12 hour shifts, boring Excel sheets, and killing time while on the clock. Claiming he could do a full 12 hour shift in 4 hours time, Gasp struggled to make himself seem busy while he was clocked in and on the job and paid the ultimate price for following the habits of his other coworkers. 

Gasp's team was made up of a lot of smokers who seemed to have an infinite amount of smoke breaks that they were allowed during the day. Gasp obviously thought that it was simply an unspoken rule that smokers could always take a break if they wanted a smoke (and their work was done), so he started taking more smoking breaks throughout the day. After two years of taking his liberties with his smoking breaks, the hammer of justice came down on Gasp… Hard. 

He was fired for "time theft" because of his excessive smoke breaks. 

Gasp of course was shocked that the HR team and loss prevention had been monitoring his breaks without saying a word. He would have been happy to recoup the loss and pay the company back for the lost time, but they wouldn't have it. It seemed as though the company was attempting to get rid of him for other reasons. Since the evidence against his excessive smoking breaks was indisputable, that was the route the company took to get rid of Gasp as an employee. 

What's worse is that Gasp never had any negative performance reviews, never received a warning for his actions, and most importantly, was simply doing what everyone else did when their job was complete. Sometimes companies just use lame excuses to get their agendas accomplished, no matter who gets smoked in the end. 

'I sent a Cease and Desist letter to the HOA': Nurse seeks advice after car is repeatedly targeted

Parking permits: the bane of many people's existence, especially this unfortunate nurse. 

After moving to a new place, this person received two parking passes, one for a covered car, one for an uncovered vehicle. "However, the rules do not state which permit is for which parking," the OP wrote, and that's where the strange cirucumstances began with the person's HOA. While strolling the neighborhood, the OP saw a mix of cars marked with green or red passes — but also a lot of cars that were unmarked altogether. 

That must've been so confusing as a new person to the neighborhood, and the OP can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone. Because the OP claims their car is being targeted by the HOA. It was nearly taken twice! The OP feels that they're being unfairly targeted when the parking situation is so scattered in the neighborhood. The OP also took to the comments to answer questions, as well as respond to the legal advice people gave. 

Next up, this teen went to a restaurant with their friends, only to realize they were the butt of a weirdly elaborate prank. 

'We need drinks!'... 'And I need tips': Bartender Gets $500 Tip After Epically Calling Out Entitled Celebrity Who Tries to Tip with an Autographed $5 Bill

Tipping culture in America is essential to keeping the service industry afloat. With most servers clocking in at minimum wage, tips are pretty much the main way that they earn their living. Not only that, but servers, especially bartenders, have to put up with a lot of entitled customers who thrive on being doted on and babied by their waitstaff and if you've ever worked in the service industry, you probably know, that guests who are rich and famous are usually also the worst. 

One witty bartender, a Redditor named u/Sssnappy, got stuck serving the private table of an entitled celebrity one night and epically pwned the guy after he was acting like a complete jerk. Apparently he was the lead singer of a band that was in town playing a show, but our Snappy bartender had no clue who he was, which definitely offended the celeb. He proceeded to badger her for more and more drinks, refusing to tip and acting like a buffoon. Finally she started to ignore his table, hoping that he would get the hint that she wasn't going to bend over backwards for him just because he's famous. Eventually he hollered at her, "We need drinks!" to which she replied, "And I need tips!". The hot shot celebrity got snippy and asked if she knew who he was, puffing his chest up in the way that snarky celebs tend to do when their ego is bruised. He threw a balled up $5 on her cocktail tray and said, "NOW can we have drinks?"

After looking closely at the pathetic tip, she realized the bill was autographed. Greaaaaat. However, her coworkers were in disbelief, fan-girling over the autograph and offering to buy it off of her. Snappy sold the autographed bill to one of her coworkers for $50 then went to thank the celebrity in her section for the $50 tip. 

Confused, the celeb said, "I gave you a 50?" and she smiled snarkily and said, "Nope, that's what the other bartender paid me for your 5!"

The celebrity immediately quirked a grin and nodded his head. "I like you", he said. By the end of the night, Snappy earned a $500 tip on $90-worth of drinks, just because she was the only server in the room with enough gaul to stick it to the man and call out the entitlement of this not-even-that-famous celebrity.

Sometimes the way workers are treated is so mind-blowingly poor it's unbelievable. Yet here we are with a new insane story of a worker having to maliciously comply or epically quit. 

Recently, an annoyed ex-employee took to Reddit to share their story of their epic last days at work at an old job of their's. They had been working at the company for a couple of years already and was offered a third promotion. They wanted to accept, but the manager looked at their time card and saw they were exactly ONE minute late coming back from break several times. These one minute increments only added up to around 5-10 minutes, but it was enough for the manager to revoke the offer. In fact, he offered the employee to "train" for the job first, which meant that the employee would be doing the work for an entire year for no pay increase. They would've essentially be working for free. The person obviously declined, and went even further to maliciously comply by simply calling out sick even if they were only running a minute or two late. 

By the end of that debacle, the company actually ended up still offering the employee the promotion with the pay raise. But they had had it, and had already found a new job with a high pay. So instead of doing what the toxic boss wanted, they were able to use all their sick days then epically quit. Read the entire story below!

You haven't experienced the true face of humanity unless you've worked at one point or another in customer service, and yes, that includes retail. The fact of the matter is, you can't indoctrinate someone for minimum wage and expect them to actually give a hoot about the job. It's not a secret, customers know this, management knows this, heck the workers themselves are well aware. 

Now, of course, there are the outliers, the people who care about their employment, the ones who make an effort to come to work. This tale of malicious compliance is about this type of overworked employee who didn't take a single sick day for three entire years while he worked at a well-known retail store. He took to the infamous (or famous?) r/maliciouscompliance subreddit to share the detailed event. 

My conclusion? Why, oftentimes, is management so utterly disappointing? Isn't it their job to know the policy of the company they work at in such a position? u/AdventurousString719 shared that he'd injured his knee, and received instructions from his doctor to take a leave of 3 weeks from work. His manager did not take kindly to that, and as soon as he returned (wobbling, might I add, as he had not fully recovered), she took it upon herself to give him a formal warning.

What ensued is what we're all here for — some nice old malicious compliance that I'd say is mixed with petty revenge. He appealed and got more than what he'd anticipated — in the best way. Annoying coworker insist's server's section is better and forces them to swap, makes less

Sometimes you just aren't good at something, and that's ok; not everyone is going to excel at everything they try, and that's just the way it is. We're all individuals with different skills who might find certain things more or less challenging. Still, it's important that we keep our egos in check and not lash out at others for our own shortcomings—for displaying grace in the midst of one's failings will determine how others will perceive your character. 

Some people don't seem to get this and cruelly lash out at anything—or anyone, in reach, taking their miserable existence to new lows. This self-perpetuating cycle of unrecognized failure can manifest itself in many different ways. For instance, as commenters on the original post have mentioned, in the service industry, it's common for underperforming serving staff to complain about their tips… blaming their penny-pinching customers for their loss of income. Every server will experience a nightmare table of guests, but just like with any relationship, if you experience the same thing enough times… maybe it's time to start reflecting inwards as well. When a server complains too often about their tables and tips… they usually have a team of coworkers shaking their heads behind their back who are tired of cleaning up their mistakes.

Once management brought it to the attention of the waitress, she gave up her section, knowing there was no way these other people could handle managing ten tables at once. As it turns out, she was right.

 

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/MaliciousCompliance subreddit by u/iwasthechubbylady, and while we don't necessarily support this kind of competition in the workplace, the real takeaway here is to know how much you can handle before overdoing it. The Redditor worked at the restaurant for five years and clearly got into a rhythm there. She also mentioned that this scenario occurred multiple times during the course of her employment at the restaurant, and every time, the other servers wound up giving her section back to her. 'That's not professional in my eyes': The controversial reason this person walked straight out of an interview

This is apparently an unspoken rule of job interviews, but do you actually follow this rule yourself? On the r/antiwork subreddit, 
u/Cavs1850 shared the one thing that made them get out of an interview so fast that they didn't even start it. 

As this writer shared, they showed up to an interview early, as one should. They were a few minutes early for a 1 PM interview, but by the time 1:05 rolled around, the manager conducting the interview was nowhere to be seen. Five minutes isn't the end of the world, but the manager kept the OP waiting and waiting. So by the time a half hour had passed by, the OP took action. 

The commenters were definitely not unanimous on this post —  some people thought the OP was rude and out of line for ditching the interview before it even started. But as one person pointed out, the company is on their best behavior during interviews, and they may never treat you better than that! So if you start off on the wrong foot and also notice management issues, maybe that says something about the company. These are the waving red flags, take note!

College cafeterias are a multipurpose space where you can dine with friends, chug a coffee while typing on your laptop, or  eat alone while scrolling on your phone or doing homework. And of course, at many colleges, this is the main or only dining option — you can't just avoid the cafe. While OP eats with her friends, she kept noticing this woman's choice to get food and not finish it. In this viral post, commenters are shocked about this employer's behavior and support the worker's subsequent decision to leave.

Worker u/issathrowaway2 has posted to the r/antiwork subreddit seeking advice, and a little understanding, from discontented fellow workers. They describe working for a small, family-owned business that wraps cars. They are 24 years old and note that it is their first job in this industry. 

This latest incident has caused them to throw in the towel, but u/issathrowaway2 has been looking to leave this job for at least six months. They only decided to stay on longer once they were, begrudgingly, given a raise. 

Their boss had asked them to come in on their day off and help out as they had some "good customers" who were demanding same-day service on a Saturday. When what was supposed to be a 2-hour job ended up taking 10, they had to cancel the freelance appointment they had booked to make it work. 

When they came in the next day... They learned that the entitled customer had complained over an insignificant detail. After being berated by the boss for this, it was all over.

‘I Only Went Out to Lunch!’ : Karen Takes Car From Leasing Company for 2 Hour Test Ride Adding 60 Miles to Odometer, Ignores All Attempts at Means of Communication, Leading to Police Getting Involved

Like all establishments, an automobile company has rules and policies. It seems entirely plausible (generally speaking,) that people would understand a little thing called the 'rule of thumb'. AKA, the unspoken agreement. But unfortunately, not everyone is very bright. There are many possible conclusions one may come to when a car seemingly evaporates into thin air. When you disappear for two hours when taking a car out for a test drive, and ignore all of the staff's attempts at reaching out to you digitally, it's fair to assume that the company will call the cops on you. For all they know, you've done a dine-and-dash, with an actual car. 

As it so turns out, one crazy lady took incredible offense when police got involved after she drove off with a car for a 'test drive', and returned two and a half hours later. This Karen took to Yelp to formally complain. Many crocodile tears were involved (She mentioned the word 'crying' about 15 times). The company replied to her review with a few minor details she had conveniently left out.

Such as the fact that while on this mini road trip, she managed to pack in quite an itinerary. She picked up a friend, who she then went to lunch with, then went off-roading, and finally made her way back to the car company to return said car. Boy was she surprised when a police cruiser was there along with the entire team of employees, awaiting her arrival with baited breath,

You know what they say: you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes. This 12-year-old teenager used her older sister's shampoo without permission. Little did she know, however, there was blue hair dye in it…

 

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/AmITheA**hole subreddit by u/pixelkid44, and we should point out that the Redditor actually had no intention of sabotage here. Her hairdresser advised that she put blue hair dye in her shampoo so that her hair can maintain its color. Her younger sister, who is blonde, tends to have a habit of taking the Redditor's things. By the time the blue hair dye drama ensued, the Redditor's parents assumed it was a prank to teach the younger sister a lesson. We're taking the Redditor's word for it when she insists that this wasn't the case and that she simply didn't think she needed to inform everyone that she was putting blue hair dye in her personal shampoo. Regardless, the results are kind of iconic.

Hotel clerks have to deal with so many stupid questions. This front desk manager wrote about how they work in a national park at a hotel, and as with most customer service roles, they have some guests that can never be satisfied with their surroundings.

It boggles the mind to think someone believes their right to a cozy campfire is worth possibly burning down the entire area they're staying at. Major Tattoo Fail Sends Girl Home in Tears, Spends Proceeding Weeks Trying to Scrub Them Off, Works Enough to Get Them Expertly Fixed

If you didn't know this already, tattoos are permanent… As parents like to remind their tatted up children quite often. So what do you do if you get a bad tattoo or it comes out messed up somehow? Well, usually you either wait until it's healed and spend thousands of dollars getting it removed by a professional. Or you talk with another tattoo artist, preferably one you trust, and see how you can transform it or cover it up to look better. Others however take a riskier route and try to hinder the healing of the tattoo so it doesn't heal properly and it fades. This is possible, but not guaranteed and can cause serious scarring or even infection. So we highly recommend you DON'T do that. 

That being said, this girl got some truly heinous fine line tattoos from a TikTok tattoo artist she saw and it sent her into tears. She was so desperate that she spent the proceeding weeks scrubbing her tattoos with oil and salt and soaking them in hydrogen peroxide. She did it enough, and the tattoos we're light enough to begin with, that she was actually able to significantly fade them. And with that she went to her usual tattoo artist and got them expertly fixed. She learned her lesson the hard way and vows never to "cheat" on her tattoo artist again.

'At this point I'm petty and angry': Rental company tries to charge guy for extra day, cue devastatingly dirty malicious compliance

Companies really hate when their consumers know their rights, which one customer used to their advantage when they needed a rental car. As the customer, you're subject to a company's rules the moment you sign a contract. But if you just follow that contract to the letter, following all the rules, there's nothing the company can do to stop you. 

One poster shared this experience to r/MaliciousCompliance, one car rental company tried to screw him over after renting a car for five weeks. They needed the car while their personal vehicle was in the shop, but it seemed like an easy enough way to return the vehicle after the time was up — OP just used a dropbox to deliver the keys. But after checking out their personal vehicle, the OP realized it was still broken. Annoying! And not even the most annoying part of their story, because the headache with the car rental company was just beginning.

Well, one man proved that brotherhood is not as sacred to some, because he pretty much threw his own biological brother under the bus, effectively ending his relationship with his long-time girlfriend, publicly shaming his drug rehabilitation, and driving a very large wedge between them. This story was aired out recently on Reddit, where the younger brother (let's call him Danny) went online to ask for advice on how to handle the situation wisely, thoughtfully, and honestly, to just to get an outside opinion on things. Danny explained that he used to be a drug addict and had been clean for over a year. While he was turning his life around, he met a young woman who he was truthful with about his past; they loved each other and eventually found an apartment to move in together. Everything was looking great in Danny's life until, out of the blue, his girlfriend broke up with him, claiming false accusations and sharing a ton of weirdly detailed information about things that never happened. She took off.

Well, Danny was suspicious about the whole situation immediately because one of the incidences she brought up as one of the reasons she couldn't continue dating him was an extremely delicate subject that he shared with only two people: Danny's therapist and his older brother, who we can call "Greg".

Apparently shady-Greg shared some deeply personal information with the girlfriend, driving her away from Danny on purpose. On top of that, after planting seeds of doubt, Greg gave the girlfriend a huge chunk of money so that she could go off on her own and find a new apartment. Danny confronted Greg about his deceptions and the whole situation escalated. Greg openly humiliated Danny and went off on how he was unreliable and a failure, but when Mrs. Greg walked in, he hushed the whole conversation, attempting to keep her out of the loop. Greg convinced Danny's girlfriend to break up with him, but doesn't want his wife to know. Sketchy, right?

Danny couldn't believe the lengths that his older brother would go to ruin his life. The backstabbing alone is enough to drive someone away, but from your own brother it's so much more painful. The man recently posted on AITA, wondering if he was being a jerk to his girlfriend (whom he was about to move in with). She had asked him to pick up her 14 year old daughter after school and he happily obliged, not specifying that he would be picking her up on his motorcycle. OOF.

The man was excited about a potential bonding moment with the teenaged girl, considering they were just about to move into his house, and he took it upon himself to load her up onto his motorcycle without the mom's explicit permission, going on a nice little joyride in the mountains before returning home. When the girlfriend found out later that evening, she was absolutely livid that her teenager was on the back of the motorcycle, scorching the Earth where the man stood for endangering her daughter. Shocked, the man wondered if he might have screwed things up with his girlfriend and, in Reddit's opinion, he certainly screwed the pooch on this one.
