Guy Recounts the Tragic Tale of His Hilarious 'Zoom Meeting' Fail

It's always when we go out of our way to seem as cool as possible that the universe decides to make us look the most foolish. Some kind of cosmic karma bolts from the blue to put us right back in our place…

Well, that's precisely what happened to this gentleman when he tried to act suave on a Zoom meeting. Right at that very moment, his IKEA furniture decided to fail him.

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/TIFU subreddit by Redditor u/DishsoapOnASponge. For those who haven't been online in the last nine years, the acronym means 'Today I F-ed Up' and originated with the subreddit when it was created in 2012. Since that time, TIFU has become synonymous with the internet and has earned its place in the "Internet Acronym Hall of Fame" along with the likes of WTF and FML.

This classic subreddit has given us some real timeless posts throughout the years, spawning the likes of the "Coconut C*m" post, "AncestryDNA," and "Pretended Not to Know About Potatoes." We might endeavor to revisit these in the near future.

Sweet Woodwork That's A Real Treet To Look At

For many of us, when we reach a certain age we are allowed to go in one of three directions. These three flavors of personality are known as trains, World War 2, and woodworking. This is a known fact. Sure, it provides you a bunch of personal satisfaction, but it makes you infinitely more difficult to talk to at parties. Any reasonable person can only listen to someone talk about joiners for 30-45 minutes tops before they want to go home. The woodworkers of the world have smooth, impenetrable brains, much like a properly sanded and lacquered chifforobe.

Anyway, here are some very cool things people managed to do with wood. Personally, we prefer to burn it and then poke at it with other, smaller pieces of wood, but shaping it into miracles of engineering is a close second. Poke poke poke.

For some other terrific feats of craftsmanship, here is fancy brickwork to gawk at and feel unskilled over.

Boss Complains About Long Unpaid Lunches, Complains About OT When Employees Claim the Time Instead

Sometimes your boss just wants a reason to complain and someone to blame… because even the laziest and worst managers have to look like they're doing something to justify their paycheck. Some lazy managers have got this figured out. Instead of working on something productive and trying to steer their team in positive new directions, they turn to the "Ouroboros of Overhauling." A constant shifting of policy and structure that isn't very well thought out achieves nothing but frustration for the subordinates they're affecting. But, hey, it gives them something to write in their report to upper management.

When this boss demanded that their subordinate shorten their unpaid lunch breaks, they didn't even pause to consider the consequences. Their subordinates had been taking these longer breaks as a favor to the company in order to cut down on unnecessary overtime. This rule change left the workers with but one option… Charge the time instead, which they were happily obliged to do.

This thread was posted to the r/maliciouscompliance subreddit by the employee, Redditor u/mattchica20, who tells the story of their very clever compliance to their boss's demands.

Petty Things People Did With Zero Regrets

The world is an unfair place where the powerful just accrue more power, and the rest of us are left to abide by a sort of honor code that we're being held to by the very people who are screwing us over. Isn't that an interesting situation to find yourself in. It's enough to drive some of us mad, and it's enough to drive others to take things into their own hands and make things happen for themselves.

Here are some times people did petty or unsavory stuff and didn't feel a single tinge of regret. Or, it's at least the stuff people are willing to admit to on the internet. Who knows what kind of junk people get up to that no one ever finds out about.

For another tale of defiance, here's the employee who was fired over a technicality, took back their own property, and left their company nonfunctional.

25 Blursed Images That Are Terrifically Intriguing And Rewarding

Life might not always be cool, good, or fun. But at least it's frequently interesting. Blursed images are a nice combination of terrifically nice blessed images and dark cursed images that somehow inspire a sort of levity in the chaos that is life. Who are we to say what is or isn't a good use of time on this planet? Maybe we all need a few more preachers in giant conch shells in our lives. Maybe we can derive meaning from watching a seagull smoke a cigarette. Maybe, just maybe, there's some inherent value to finding a guy who looks exactly like the human version of Shrek from Shrek 2.

There probably isn't, but at least we've got our ticket to ride this oozing funhouse called life on earth.

And if you couldn't get our fix of inherent strangeness from just what fell out of the internet this time, here are some more blursed images from this strange plane of existence.

Manager Demands Workers Pay Missing Money to Balance Till, Internet Bewildered

This manager demanded that the workers present on shift all help to even out the till when it was found to be short $100.

This thread was posted to the r/antiwork subreddit by Redditor u/52_pickup_limes, one of the employees in the targeted group. They posted the thread, which contained screenshots of the messages from their boss, to the subreddit with the title "Is the store manager allowed to do this?!"

Commenters overwhelming answered the call of the titular question and confirmed that, no, the manager was not allowed to make that demand. Especially since it's illegal and their accusations against the employees on shift were unsubstantiated.

When I worked for an omnipotent fast-food coffee chain (no spoilers, but it rhymes with "Marmucks") we had a boss who went on a tirade against staff who were present when $20 went missing one night on cash up. A few days later it was discovered that a $20 had wedged itself above the drop box that you were supposed to drop large bills into. There was a slot, pretty much damn near the size of the actual dropbox slot, that bills loved to find their way into when frantic "martners" were in a mad rush to crank customers through the till.

The mystery was solved and the day was saved thanks to the Powerpuff Girls, but no apology was ever issued.

Resident Nurse Rallies Their Team, Takes Down Vindictive Nurse Manager

A horrible and cruel Nurse Manager was finally taken down by their subordinates after a "seasoned" Resident Nurse joined the team and managed to rally their young and inexperienced teammates to take a stand. The workplace had an incredibly toxic atmosphere, and the clouds were practically begging for the right moment to burst. All it took was one little push to send the brick and mortar of the establishment tumbling down.

This thread was posted to the r/ProRevenge subreddit by the Resident Nurse (RN), u/IAmHerdingCatz, who recounts their epic tale of revenge from days past. The thread was titled "I'm A Team Builder!" and has earned 5k upvotes on the subreddit since it was first posted.

Commenters expressed their enjoyment of the tale and complimented the "punchline" of the story for its effect.

Group Locks Dude Out Of His Own Camper For The Night, He Leaves With His Camper

At an early age, most people learn that if it's not your ball, it's in your best interest to play fair. Cause if the kid whose ball it is decides that they don't want to play anymore, you can't either.

This guy's friend's wanted to use his camper to attend a spartan race. Since he didn't exactly want to relinquish the thing itself, he did the next best thing and drove them there. Then night comes and they decided that he can't sleep in there with them and refuse to let him in, resulting in him having to sleep in his truck. This dude figured that such behavior was uncalled for, and he remembered that the good deed of letting his friends use the camper could be revoked at any time. So he hitched that baby up and left. It seems like they forgot that they were sleeping in a borrowed camper.

36 People Who Need To Learn How To Secure Their Loads Properly

If you wanted to feel smart today, look no further than people who could have put in the smallest amount of effort to not endanger innocent bystanders, and didn't. It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that just throwing a heavy thing onto the roof of your car and hoping for the best as you barrel down the freeway is something that should be looked down on. I swear to god if I get killed by a couch because some dumbass thought it would be a Chad move just to "hold onto it and it'll be fine" my soul will crawl up from hell, through their toilet, up their ass and burst out of their chest like Alien.

This is like drunk driving except at least people who choose to drink and drive have the miniscule benefit of having had their judgement impaired. These dipshits got up, drank a cup of coffee and said "today I choose to be an unsafe dick." So anyway, feel good that you're not this stupid.

Office HR Manager Tells Adult Content Creator She Needs to Submit All Her Content to Him Before Posting

Somehow someone at this Adult Content Creator's place of work discovered her side-hustle and reported her to HR. Now, u/beachlifejenn has received a letter from her HR manager demanding that she submit all images she intends to share on social media before posting the photos online.

This thread was posted today to the r/aniwork subreddit, where, due to overlapping hot topics, it has taken off like a virtual rocket ship, earning 500 comments in just a few hours and being upvoted enough to reach the "hot" section of Reddit's front page, r/all.

The thread was posted from the content creator u/beachlifejenn's Reddit account (which we will not be linking directly to for predictable reasons.) The post features a photo of the alleged letter, which contains a redacted message detailing the company's demands for the recipient's continued employment.

"It has come to our attention that you have been engaging in sexual misconduct online." opens the letter before launching into an overly detailed description of the content that the recipient had purportedly been posting.

It then describes a list of demands, including

Moderators of the subreddit removed the thread just as the thread attracted more and more attention; the moderators did not give specific reasons for the thread's removal but cited subreddit Rule 3a.

Rule 3a: No spam, no low-effort shitposts.

Unsubstantiated speculation and conspiracies in the comments have suggested that the post was part of a 'viral marketing.' ploy, listing this as a possible cause for the thread's removal.

Viral marketing has seen a rise in recent years, with attempts meeting great success on platforms like Reddit and TikTok. These successful campaigns have caused users to be suspicious whenever something seems too good to be true or anytime a creator or entity stands to notably gain from the exposure that a viral post would provide.

Commenters expressed how illegal the alleged demands in the letter were, suggesting that the recipient could take legal actions had they not already signed some type of social media policy as part of their employment.

"I've never signed anything like that that I remember." the poster responded to one such comment.

Further clarification was provided by the poster in her comments, adding that this was an office job and that she felt creeped out by the letter she received.

18 People Share The Exact Moment That Made Them Nope Out Of A Relationship

They say "don't waste time dating your ex."  And it can be hard to leave, even if they suck. But sometimes you have an epiphany with someone that makes you go "oh man, there's definitely no coming back from this." It could be something as simple as a moment of hypocrisy or catching them in a lie. But sometime it's along the lines of "he sold my dad's urn to support his Magic: The Gathering addiction" and moments like those make it pretty easy to shove off.

Sometimes people show you exactly who they are, and it's up to you to realize that no amount of apologizing or feigned ignorance on their part is going to stop you from seeing them through regular-colored glasses. People are totally capable of change. But someone who makes you drop them off at their secret boyfriend's house probably isn't going to. Who cares if there's more fish in the sea. Being in a bad relationship is worse than being single.

Here are some unfortunate souls who explained why they stayed with their cheating partner.

Wife Roasted For Telling Husband to Deal With Her Mother's Backhanded Comments

This wife took to the internet to see if she was in the wrong for telling her husband to deal with her mother's comments towards him and "hash things out" with her. The wife notes that her mother "is the one who usually starts" but that her husband "also escalates (sic) and refuses to let it go." Essentially, her mother is bullying her husband while he is vulnerable and trying to maintain peace at family events, and this wife is doing nothing to stand up for him.

Reddit users on Reddit's r/AITA (Am I the A--Hole) subreddit, where this thread was initially posted, were quick to point this out. They unhesitatingly pointed out that the wife and her mother were the problems. The mother for being nasty and picking on her husband and the wife herself for not standing up for him.

Dad Kicks Escort Sister Out After She Glorifies Her Profession to His Teen Daughter, Posts Heartwarming Update

This concerned father felt the need to inform his sister that she was no longer welcome to stay in his home after he overheard her glorifying her job as an escort to his teenage daughter. His sister explained that she just wanted to share her experiences but spare his daughter from the darker side of things but he felt that the stories she told were going to leave his daughter with the wrong impression. The situation is especially delicate since his daughter's aunt is her primary female role model since her mother has tragically passed away.

The father then returned with a heartwarming update, giving readers insight into how things had progressed since the original post.

This thread was originally posted to Reddit's r/AITA (Am I the A--Hole) with the title 'AITA for not letting my sister stay with us after how she explained her job to my 14 year old daughter?' The thread received a lot of feedback from readers who all suggested that the father, the author of the post, was not in the wrong for kicking his daughter out of the house.

"NTA," wrote Redditor Flaky_Tip, "Your daughter is at a vulnerable age, and your sister was telling her the kinds of things pimps and traffickers say to drag kids into a bad situation."

"I don't think your sister was being malicious but I do think she needs to be more careful about what she says to young girls about her (sic) chosen profession. Even if she doesn't want to admit it, sex work is dangerous."

Others noted how irresponsible the aunt was for framing her work in such a way for a young woman.

Ultimately, users felt that the sister should be allowed back if she was willing to sit down and lay things out straight for her niece and let her know some of the less-glamourous aspects of sex work.

That's essentially exactly what ended up happening. The father returned with an updated post to let readers know what the conclusion of the situation was.

Seller Posts Ad For The Most Red Truck, Painted Inside And Out

Okay, fine. They could have painted the windows. But still, it's hard a find a truck painted more red than this 1992 Cheyenne. Ever wanted to see what a truck looks like when you literally paint the whole thing red, inside and out? Don't you want to see what it's like driving around in a red blood cell? It could be fun to pick up chicks in such a spicy looking truck. It looks like it was made for the devil himself. C'mon, don't you wanna drop a few bucks and see how sticky a painted steering wheel feels on your hands? In the summer you could feel like your getting groceries in your own personal mobile version of hell.

And only 10,000 miles on this bad boy? Sounds like a pretty nice deal.

For some more intriguing junk that someone thought was a good idea, here are some DIY creations that went off the rails.

DIY Creations That Went Off The Rails

Sometimes you're sitting there, wondering what you're missing in life. And it dawns on you: "holy crackers, I don't own a single pair of pants made of dog hair!" And you ask around, trying to figure out how to buy a pair of genuine golden retrousers. After days of searching, you realize that you might have to make these godawful things yourself. So you wander around dog parks with meat, waiting for dogs to come up and sniff your fingers while you deftly collect their loose fur in a shoebox labelled "the good stuff."

After being chased off by what seems like a thousand legitimately concerned dog owners, you finally have your dog hair pants. You proudly wear them, making sure to push your heavy, crumbling, tanker truck dog ass into people's personal space on the bus, especially on hot days.

"Next, boxer shorts."

Here are some similar people with similar goals when it came to creating things that probably shouldn't be.

Weird And Dumb Ways Customers Tried To Solve Escape Rooms

Escape rooms aren't for everyone. While some of us appreciate the challenge of solving complex puzzles and using teamwork to overcome them, a lot of us look at a locked door and think "if I run at this door hard enough, I'm pretty sure I could burst through it like the Kool-Aid man." Sure, it defeats the whole purpose of the outing itself, but people still do it. Like, a lot.

An astounding number of people will try to get out of escape rooms by ripping doors from their hinges and sticking their fingers into lightbulb sockets. The thing is, they're technically not wrong. Damaging things and injuring yourself is a terrifically efficient way to escape an escape room. It doesn't really display a lot of puzzle-solving aptitude, but it does show your ability to think outside the box. And also your core strength. Here are some times people decided to make their own path through escape rooms.

Large Gal Buys Herself Second Seat on Flight For Comfort, Entitled Couple Decides It's Their's

A woman purchased herself an extra seat on her flight for her own comfort and security. She explains in her story that she is a fairly large gal and prefers using this method when she travels so that she can have a comfortable distance from other people.

This sounds like an excellent and polite consideration that speaks volumes of Redditor u/Tessy23's character. It's a shame that not everyone shares that consideration for others. For, it wasn't long before a couple on the flight decided that u/Tessy23's extra seat was prime for the taking. Without asking they helped themselves and squeezed in next to her and then proceeded to get triggered about the fact that she was encroaching on their space. Any attempts that she made to explain the situation were ignored and, as the situation escalated, it only got uglier.

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/AITA (Am I the A-Hole) subreddit by Redditor u/Tessy23, who told the story of her experience and appealed to readers to see whether or not she was in the wrong or shared part of the blame for the situation.

Commenters were unanimous in their advice and decision and expressed that u/Tessy23 shared absolutely no blame for the situation. The issue and blame fell squarely with the entitled couple for taking her extra seat.

That's a verdict that we wholeheartedly agree with, it's a shame that u/Tessy23 had to endure that experience.

Good Guy Employer Gives Employee Unexpected Raise to Match Salary of New Hires, Internet Applauds

This story has been trending online in various forums and social platforms. The story has been shared as screenshots of a feel-good story where an unknown user shares their tale of the time they were offered a raise y a benevolent employer to match their salary to new hires.

This particular thread was posted to Reddit's r/antiwork subreddit by Redditor u/woja111.  This popular sub often deals with employment issues and the social issues surrounding the current employment market and climate.

The topic was posted with the title "Wage matching should be the norm." It contains screenshots of a viral LinkedIn post that had 132k reactions and 1585 comments when it was screen-shotted. We can probably count, on one hand, the social content we have shared that originated from LinkedIn's platform, but there are always surprises on the internet.

Workers have been applauding this employer's actions and reaffirming the thread's titular statement that this "should be the norm." Commenters have shared their own stories, celebrating employers who have done the same thing and blasting employers who have managed to achieve the exact opposite.

Manager Told to Shift Focus By Boss, Shifts Focus... Just Not in the Way the Boss Pictured

There's nothing like going to work and finding your boss (and your boss's boss) seated and waiting for you. It's the kind of experience that is straight out of a 'bad workplace' flick such as Office Space.

Well, that's precisely what happened to Redditor u/GetDerived when they came into work and were ambushed after their team received a bad audit. They were told to drop all of their other priorities and focus on the group's major concerns. The issue was they were constantly waiting on other teams to deliver on their parts of projects before they could proceed, so if they were only focusing on the major projects, they were going to have a lot of downtime. They tried to explain this, but their words fell only on deaf ears, so it was high time for some malicious compliance.

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/maliciouscompliance subreddit by Redditor u/GetDerived, who tells their story of this frustrating interaction they had at work.

Commenters expressed their appreciation for u/GetDerived's story and some shared experiences of their own.

Wholesome Moments To Exercise The Feels

There are a few ways to feel better about things. One of them, probably the most effective way, is to actually take action in order to improve your life by solving a problem or gaining a skill. And through incremental change, we can all become fully realized versions of ourselves, living the meaningful lives that we set out to achieve. But that's not something that happens overnight.

Another way is to bother your friends into complimenting you. Really twist their arm until they go "no honey, you're the best. You try so hard. You deserve everything." And while this is momentarily satisfying, it doesn't really solve anything. And also you risk becoming a burden to your friends.

So if your goals aren't being met as quickly as you'd like to, and you've pumped your friends for compliments to the point that they need a break, go ahead and explore option 3: Looking at pictures of dogs being like people, and other folks achieving their own goals. It works, and it gives your exhausted social circle some room away from your constant need for validation.

Here are some more wholesome moments to tap into the feels.

Boss's Daughter Steals Lunch, Gets Sent To Hospital, Boss Tries Blaming Employee

So here's the thing. Any reasonable person with a life-threatening peanut allergy is probably cautious enough to not be in the business of stealing stranger's lunches. It's an irresponsible, presumptive and entitled thing to do. But one interesting feature of nepotism is that the boss's kid often has a hard time seeing things that way. And it seems like this boss's kid in particular had a persistent habit of stealing people's lunches.

This employee wasn't even trying to trick their coworker. They just brought their own food. And the boss's daughter, who evidently believed that what's everyone else's is hers, didn't think that a stranger's peanut sauce might contain peanuts. It's just a snowball of errors that starts with one person's inability to acknowledge personal property, despite the very real and ever-present danger of their life threatening food allergy.

But it's not like this person's boss is going to thank her for clarifying things. His daughter might have put herself in the hospital, but at the same time, it doesn't benefit him to internalize any kind of personal responsibility on the part of him or his kin, so he won't. It's as if his body chemistry somehow rejects blame. If only there was a word for such a phenomenon.

Lying Ex Exposed, Had Been Pretending Woman's Belongings Were Their Interests

This fine gentleman and his partner ended things mutually after 7 years together. They maintained an amiable friendship afterward, during which time his ex-girlfriend even helped him plan a trip with his new girlfriend. After which the two got engaged. At this point his ex-girlfriend began to see things just a little bit clearer (she might have been a little bitter about his new fiancée too.) She decided it was time to take a little revenge and went over to his place to collect her things. While there she ran into his new fiancée and began to realize that her ex had been pretending that her things were his, in some vain attempt to adopt a more interesting persona for his new partner.

Dungeons and Dragons Memes To Cast On Self

Sometimes regular escapism isn't enough. You can only re-watch so many episodes of "I Love Lucy" while wearing a pasta-stained Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles onesie for so many months before reality comes creeping back into your unfulfilled life. That's when it's time to bring out the big guns. When you don't even want to be a human anymore, it's time to grab the dice, get together a few punctual acquaintances, and get to business filling out a stat sheet for your half-dwarf barbarian mage that you've already congratulated yourself for naming "Shockrates."

Dungeons and Dragons lets us fulfill our wildest dreams, such as "what would happen if I hit this traveling bard with a hammer and took his things" or "what would happen if I hit this innkeeper with a hammer and took his things." We are seeing no themes here and we do not want to self-reflect on the choices we make in fictional realms.

Here are some more dungeons and dragons memes.

HOA and Neighbor Karen Mess With Wrong Gardner Uncle, He Gives Them the 'What For'

This gardening uncle became the target of his HOA for violating their 'no fences' regulation after he was reported by his Karen neighbor for the small half-foot high picket fence that he placed around his garden. The HOA regulation was supposed to pertain to enclosing fences only but the HOA's strict interpretation of their regulations allowed them to enforce it against any and all fences. The uncle decided to play into their strict interpretation game and after combing through the regulations he began to see a plan taking shape…

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/maliciouscompliance subreddit by Redditor u/stardenia who posted the tale to tell the story of their uncle's brilliant revenge on the HOA and neighbor Karen for messing with his garden.

When reading this we can't help but picture the uncle as some kind of Tom Bombadil-like figure who, despite his cheery and carefree exterior, holds a vast amount of power and knowledge that mortals can't comprehend.

Parents Cancel Kid's Birthday For His Entitled Brother, He Tells His Entire School

This dejected son shared their story of the time their parents canceled their birthday party due to their sibling's entitled tantrums. They explain that their brother had high-functioning autism and the inter-workings of the family dynamic that was built around that presented a situation where the dejected son was having to make constant concessions for their brother and share everything that they had with them. It definitely reads as a difficult situation for this family, but the shades these parents are painted in during the events of this story do not present their actions as being rational or fair.

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/entitledparents subreddit by the dejected sibling, u/Holden-Position-4, who shared their story of the hardship they faced during this particular event and how they strong-armed their parents by exposing their actions to their entire school.

This subreddit often hosts stories of difficult family situations and situations where 'entitled' parents have manipulated and cheated the children that they are raising or have raised. The stories often consist of rampant narcissism, gaslighting, and entitlement. Sometimes there are bittersweet moments but predominantly these are not feel-good stories as they deal with the struggles children face within these families.

Karen Boss Forbids Employee's Use Of Hearing Aids, Employee Can't Hear Anything, Obviously

If there's ever been a clearer cut case of an incompetent boss, we haven't heard of it. This Karen was under the impression that their own hearing-impaired employee's cochlear implants would be a distraction during work. And in a way she was right. Hearing customers and your own boss complain is a huge distraction.

Luckily, this is one of those things that righted itself. Turns out if your boss makes a rule that makes the workplace less efficient, loses them money, and makes them look like the idiot that they truly are, that new rule will go away faster than you can say "I never made a rule like that, what are you talking about?" Good on this employee for going the whole nine yards to let Karen know how dumb she was being.

For another tremendous tale of workplace idiocy, here's the Karen boss who refused to accept an employee's resignation and left to go shopping instead.
