Guy's Classmate Teaches Him Lesson In Selflessness

This guy's Twitter thread about misinterpreting his classmate's behavior, is a valuable lesson in mindfulness, not leaping to conclusions, and ultimately thinking outside of oneself. Looks like the two dudes ended up having that lunch together by the end of the story, after all.

1.

Text - Thomas McFall @thomas_mcfall Hey guys, I knowl usually just post shitty jokes on my Twitter but bear with me because I wanted to share something. >

2.

Text - So in one of my Management classes I sit in the same seat in the front every day. Every single day I sit there. Now, I also sit next to some foreign guy that

3.

Text - Thomas McFall @thomas_mcfall · 5d v barely speaks English. The most advanced thing I've heard this guy say in English is "Wow, my muffin is really good". This guy also has a habit of stacking every item he owns in the exact space I sit. His bag, his food, his books, and his phone are ALWAYS right on my desk space. 06 271,098 14.2K

4.

Text - Thomas McFall @thomas_mcfall · 5d v Now, every single time I walk into class this guy says "Ah, Tom. You here. Okay." And starts frantically clearing my desk of his belongings. He then makes it a habit to say "Ready for class, yeah?" And gives me a high five. Every day this guy gives me a high five. 04 271,052 17.1K

5.

Text - Thomas McFall @thomas_mcfall · 5d I was ALWAYS annoyed with this guy. I'm thinking "Dude, you know I sit in this seat every day. Why are you always stacking your shit here? And the last thing I want to do is give a guy who barely speaks my language high fives at 8 in the morning" Just get your shit off my desk O 16 271,005 13.7K

6.

Text - Thomas McFall @thomas_mcfall · 5d v But today I came to class and was running a few minutes late. I'm standing outside because I had to send a quick text. I could see my usual space through the door out of the corner of my eye. Of course, my desk was filled with his belongings. The usual. 27964 12.9K

7.

Text - Thomas McFall @thomas_mcfall · 5d v As l'm standing there on my phone another guy who was also late walks into the class before me and tried to take my seat since it's closest to the door. The guy sitting next to me stops this dude from sitting down and says "I'm sorry. My good friend Thomas sits here." Q 22 271,663 29.5K

8.

Text - Thomas McFall @thomas_mcfall · 5d v It was then that I realized this guy wasn't putting stuff on my seat to annoy me. He was saving me the seat every morning. And this whole time he saw me as a friend but I was too busy thinking about myself to take him into consideration. Cheesy as it sounds, I was touched.

9.

Text - Thomas McFall @thomas_mcfall · 5d v I ended up going into class and of course he cleared the seat and said "Ah, Tom. You here. Okay." And I did get a high five. At the end of class I ended up asking him if he wanted to get a bite to eat with me. We did. And we talked for a while. I got through the broken English 271,159 23.3K

Text - Thomas McFall @thomas_mcfall 5d v The guy moved here from the Middle East to pursue a college education in America. He plans to go back after he gets his degree. He's got two kids and a wife. He works full time and sends his all his left over money back home to his wife. 07 271,271 27.4K

11.

Text - Thomas McFall @thomas_mcfall · 5d v I asked him how he liked America as well. He said he misses his family but it's exciting to be here. He also said "Not every American is nice to me like you are, Tom." I bought lunch, of course. Dude deserves it. He gave me a high five for buying lunch. Gotta keep up tradition. O 22 271,476 34.6K

Text - Thomas McFall @thomas_mcfall · 5d v Moral of the story? Don't do what I do and constantly only think about yourself. It took me nearly the entire semester to get my head out of my ass and realize this guy was just trying to be my friend. Better late than never I suppose. 938 2712.1K 118K

Wholesome Memes Because Some Things are Still Nice

Times can get weird, hard, and disappointing. Everyone is very well aware of that. That's why it's okay to have a reminder that people aren't terrible everywhere. Almost everyone has the common goals of being happy and building connections. Wholesome memes can provide a boost in what can seem like an otherwise unforgiving world.

Mom's Baby Name Choice Gets Called Out

There's nothing wrong with finding ways to share your appreciation for Game of Thrones. Even if the last season and that finale was some whole other kind of mess, but leave the newborn baby out of the process. Or, or if you're going to name your newborn after a character from the show, at least spell their name right. The name that this new mom settled on sounds like it'd manifest in nothing short of a waking nightmare for the kid every time they went to introduce themselves.

1.

Text - AITA for telling my roommate that the name she chose for her baby is 'ridiculously stupid'? Not the A-hole My roommate (24f) is a big Game of Thrones fan. She's pregnant with her first child right now. She decided to name her baby, 'Arya'. When she asked my opinion of this name, I said I it was a good name with a good meaning (Arya means noble in Sanskrit), but a lot of people have named their kids Arya/Khaleesi/Sansa because of the popularity of GoT and it might be a little too common, n

2.

Text - The next day, which was yesterday, she said she's found a way to name her baby 'Arya' and not have it be associated with other Aryas running around or the show. How? She said she wanted to spell it as Aughreighyah. I did a double take reading that word too, but apparently people are supposed to read it as Augh-reigh-ya or Arya. She asked me how I felt about it and I told her that, frankly, Aughreighyah looks ridiculously stupid and she should just go with Arya. She got kinda upset and sai
