Top Hilarious Reasons People Gave for Quitting Their Jobs

People often wonder if they should quit, dreaming of greener pastures, or in other words, more money, better work conditions, and nicer coworkers. Also, let's not forget the most important thing of all… a good boss. Quitting your job can be easy, or hard, depending on how much you enjoy it. Once upon a time, I was working as a waitress, and let's just say that it wasn't hard at all to let go of rude customers, not great pay, and long nights cleaning bathrooms. But hey, I had some pretty legitimate reasons to hate it. Of course, every reason is legitimate… but still, some reasons are sort of, well, weird.

This particular Reddit post asks, 'What is the strangest or weirdest reason someone gave for quitting their job?'. Well, as usual, Reddit has a lot of good answers. People gathered to share their own experiences… scroll down to read what they said. For more, here is an employee who got fired after closing the largest deal the company had ever seen.

'They were immediately let go': 30+ Stories of people who got fired on their first day

Starting a new job is never easy… there's so much unknown and uncertainty before you even step foot in the door on your first day, and it's easy to let that stress get to you. Once you step foot in the door, even if you've worked in the industry for years, there are always new processes and procedures to be followed, and different approaches and understandings achieve the same thing in a slightly different way. There are new relationships to start, first impressions to be made, and egos to soothe and avoid. Every step along that path must be followed with relative precision, and one small misstep can see you sent packing back to wherever you came from. The reality is that, although it might feel that way, it's never usually that treacherous, and most people who got fired on the first day managed to completely miss essential social queues and refused to listen to blatantly obvious workplace rules. If you really have to walk on eggshells as much as your anxiety is telling you to, this job might not be somewhere you want to work long-term.

These people gathered to share their stories of that person who got fired on their first day and stories of other people who managed to get fired in record time—sometimes even before their first day had started.

'My boss keeps calling me when I'm home with pneumonia': Boss texts sick employee 15+ times asking for 'quick tasks'

There are bosses with empathy, and then there's this dude. U/yodascousinkevin told this surprising story of what happened when they came down with a bout of pneumonia, only to find out their boss just would not leave them alone.

We all want to feel unique and special and irreplaceable at our jobs. We want to think that the work we do is exceptional, and that the place just wouldn't run the same without us. In reality, everyone is replaceable. No one told that to the OP's boss, though, who is acting like the building's on fire without them there. They're quite literally treating the OP like the company can't run if they miss even a single day of work.

Interestingly, in the comments, no one could agree who was in the right. Most encouraged the OP to report their boss's rapid-fire messages to HR, and told them they weren't the a-hole. A few others said the OP should have known better than to have no replacement for them, but that's more of their boss's responsibility than the OP's. And finally, others said everyone sucks here. They believe it'd be rude for the OP to block their boss's number. Maybe HR will let the OP do that anyway, and give the boss a scolding for bothering OP while sick in bed.

Next up, these employees got fired at light speed for making hilariously dumb mistakes.

15+ Texts People Should Not Have Sent

We have all had a regrettable texting moment, haven't we? It could have been an impulsive moment of passion, a complete mistake, or a total misread of the situation.

While you sit there and pretend that this kind of thing has not happened to you, I'll chime in and admit that it's happened to me on multiple occasions. I once was on my way to brunch with an ex-friend I didn't like and texted my other friends that I was fully not looking forward to it. Except I didn't text my other friends that…I texted the person I was literally about to meet in five minutes.

Here's a more vulnerable one. I once went on a walk with a date and threw an unhinged tantrum at the guy after he didn't text me back within 24 hours. Let's just say I was recently out of a relationship, so there were definitely other factors that affected my behavior at that moment.

Keep scrolling below for these wild text exchanges. When you're finished, check out this collection of the top Karens of the week!

'You're so beautiful, why would you do this to yourself?': Waitress deals with customers disgusted by her tattoos

Plenty of people love getting tattoos because they feel like they're an artistic and creative way to express themselves. Some people view tattoo art as a way of turning their bodies into somewhat of a canvas where they can showcase meaningful images and messages. Not everyone in the world feels that way, though – Especially when it comes to the boomer generation and above.

A woman working as a waitress took to Reddit to complain about the current situation she's dealing with on the job. Instead of being able to show up for work serving tables and earning a solid amount of tips to pay her bills, she's constantly fending off negative commentary from judgmental clientele who don't love the tattoo art she has on her skin.

Since her tattoos are mostly visible in places like her arms, it's difficult for her to hide them from the world on a daily basis. she explained that she's been called "disgusting" and "ugly" by people who've seen her serving tables. She also receives disgusted looks from people who appear to be completely grossed out. Redditors with similar serving stories have flooded the comment section with their two cents.

'Our place was fined': Overworked employee has to take on incompetent coworker's job, maliciously complies and gets boss in trouble

Taking over for your coworker in a time of crisis is the nightmare to end all nightmares. First of all, even if they are competent at their jobs, you're suddenly thrust into a completely unrealistic situation in which you are supposed to perform your current duties and your coworker's duties within the same work hours. And let's be honest: you're probably not getting paid any extra for this unless you start making demands.

Now, what happens if the coworker was incompetent and left you to pick up the pieces of a complete mess? Well, after you hide in the bathroom and have your 15-minute nervous breakdown, you return to your desk and get started. You ensure that as you're uncovering what went wrong, you make it clear that you are not at fault for what you're reporting. You're merely trying to decipher what your coworker did. That's what happened to this Redditor, who was already resentful of this coworker because they had managed to achieve an unfair, "untouchable" status despite being absolutely awful at her actual job.

The Redditor kept on with their report and uncovered the truth about just how much money the company owed. Keep scrolling below to see what happened when they updated their boss about the whole situation. Let's just give you a preview first and say that all the higher-ups in the company ended up having to get involved.

'I have a coupon': Customer tries to order pizza from an arts and crafts store

A Karen calls an arts and crafts store and demands a pizza… No, this isn't a punchline for a joke—but everyone who has worked in restaurants or retail wishes that it was. These workers have seen their fair share of wild demands and demanding wild persons—and it only takes one screaming customer meltdown in the lobby of your establishment to make you reconsider your entire line of work. But at least in person, most people have the good graces to behave politely, but phone conversations and email exchanges are another story, that one step of removal emboldens a surprising amount of people to say and do insane things in the same way that "keyboard warriors" are quick to jump down your throat with negative comments online.

'We don't want a dog': Aunt buys nieces puppy as a surprise present without asking their parents, dad loses it

In my completely unbiased opinion, dogs might be one of the greatest creatures on this earth. Though, it remains a fact that they're a lot of work—work that is worth it if you have the patience, time, and money… and are willing to make the sacrifices necessary to ensure that they have a good quality of life and that you're being a responsible owner.

If you think bringing a dog into your life doesn't require a huge change in lifestyle and responsibility—then I really worry about your poor dog and the people affected by your irresponsible ownership. For, when you take a neglected dog out into public spaces, it becomes a burden on everyone else.

Giving someone the gift of this immense responsibility without first making darn well sure they want it is—well—insane. Heck, giving someone a plant as a gift can even be too much responsibility for some people, let alone giving them what is essentially the 'lite' version of parenthood. There will be bills to pay, food to be purchased, training to be done, and 5 AM potty breaks to be overseen—you can't just give everyone all of that as a surprise present. It's basically making a split-second decision for someone and going, "Here you go! Enjoy the next 8-12 years of your life!"

So, when this husband, father, and brother shared his experience on an online community, it was easy to see why readers resoundingly took his side. His sister, a "dog mom," brought her nieces home from an outing, bringing with them a furry guest—to the parent's horror. There had been no conversations and no warning about the surprise gift, which led to the parents deciding to take the puppy to the pound.

Read on for the husband's account of events and the verdicts that readers posted in the comments. Next, see this friend who wanted to stay with a family while he was down on his luck but demanded that the family get rid of their dog first.

'He manages to destroy more than $2 million in material': 20+ Employees and their coworkers who made giant mistakes at work

These people shared the biggest and funniest ways they've ever messed up at work. Maybe they didn't find it funny at the time, but looking back on your mistakes can be hilarious.

Everyone makes mistakes sometimes, and some are much more serious than others. U/headtotoe asked people to tell about the worst mistakes they've ever made in the workplace. After a little bit of pushing from commenters, the OP shared the mistake that led them to ask the question. They wrote that at their data entry job at a newspaper, they input some wrong digits. In turn, their mistake trickled down to the mail carriers, who didn't have enough papers to give to each customer. Then, those customers got annoyed that they didn't get their newspaper subscription, and complained about it to the company. Then, the OP writes, they did it again the next day! It's impressive how one mistake can lead to a cascade of other things gone wrong.

These people who shared their stories below are from all types of industries, from waiting tables to working in IT to working in the legal field. Check out all the responses below, and next time you make a mistake, remember that someone else has definitely done something worse.

After that, this boss tried to tell her babysitter to miss her own sister's wedding just to take care of the boss's kids instead.

Top 15 Wholesome Pickup Lines of the Week (July 24, 2023)

Everyone acts like they don't like a cheesy pickup line, but have you ever actually gotten one? They're kind of great. The good ones, of course. And we've collected some creative ones for you to use on your next Tinder, Hinge, or Bumble date.

These top wholesome pickup lines serve as yet another reminder that even in the brutal world of online dating, chivalry isn't totally dead. Sure, we had to sift through lots of unsavory pickup lines to get to the good ones, but the good ones do still exist, buried underneath the nonsense. There's still hope left for the hopeless romantics of the world.

Here's hoping that this list will inspire some of you folks to clean up your acts and behave better on these apps. Maybe then you'll actually get to meet one of these matches in person and sweep them off their feet. Ok, maybe that's wishful thinking, but we can dream.

'Forget you're never loved': 25 Designs that should go back to the drawing board

Graphic designers have "off" days too. But sometimes these designs are so poorly done that I wonder if the designer was trying to do it badly on purpose. Or maybe their client had so many changes and tweaks to the design that the designer got fed up, threw up their hands, and did the worst possible job.

Below are some rather poorly designed shirts, buildings, and signs. Once you start taking notice of poor designs like these, you start seeing them everywhere.

My favorite is the balcony of many head bumps (#2). Hovering just four-ish feet above the ground, this first floor balcony has a giant gap underneath, which I'm sure kids and adults alike love to walk underneath. The balcony is also chained off with some unfriendly-looking chains and poles, probably because the people who live there never get a break from folks walking under or around their balcony. I'd feel so awkward living there, being at eye level with people strolling by, as the balcony takes up most of the sidewalk they need.

Check out all the funny fails below. Then, this employee isn't sure how to tell their boss that they need their lunch break to unwind, instead of answering tons of questions.

'If they shenan once, they'll shenanigan': 16 Times One Person Failed and It Ended the Fun for Everyone Else

Remember when you were little and you would go on a field trip and as long as you had a buddy, you could go explore where ever you wanted? Like at the zoo or museum, and then be back for lunchtime. What freedom you felt when you were allowed to do that as a kid! But there is always that one kid… That ONE entitled or just unlucky little kid who ruins it for everyone. Maybe they get lost and now nobody is allowed to be anywhere without a chaperone. Or maybe they decided to go somewhere they weren't allowed and now your school is uninvited to have filed trips there. What a friggin' bummer that was. Well, you'd think we all grow up and not pull those kinds of shenanigans again. But as the internet has taught us, if they shenani'd once you better believe they're gonna shenan-again. Reddit has been gathering all the times this has happened to adults back when they were kids AND now as adults—some of these instances are just plain obnoxious. See for yourself below!

'Rules are rules, sweetie': Beachgoers tell lifeguard to enforce the rules, lifeguard finds petty rules to enforce on them

This beach is full of old money folks who are used to getting their way. As u/fumples explained in their story to r/MaliciousCompliance, they had to deal with some rather irritating women who made it their goal to police everybody at the beach.

Going to the shore for a summer vacation is the highlight of the summer for those who live along the coast. It's common for families to plan a few days of relaxation at the beach, where the kids can build sandcastles and play in the waves, while the adults catch a nap or read a good book. The Jersey shores are known for attracting hordes of people to their boardwalks, where you can mini-golf, snack on funnel cakes and ice cream, and ride amusement park rides on the piers. It's a classic wholesome good time for all, and lifeguards help to keep everyone safe while in the water.

That didn't stop these two women from telling the OP how to do their lifeguarding job. They had a really silly request, which had no reasoning beyond wanting to control someone else. At least the OP was able to make the women regret spoiling someone else's beach day. Scroll down to read the entire story.

Then, read about how this truck driver got back at their boss who left them 11 voicemails in a day.

'This looks like a personal print job': Boss makes employees pay to use printer for personal use, employee catches boss breaking the rules

There's nothing more satisfying than proving to everyone in the office that your manager's pointless rules are... well, pointless. We all know that there are a number of "office policies" that apply here. Some of these include what time you come into the office, what time you leave, always needing to be at your desk, the endless remote/in-person work debate, etc. The degree to which these policies are pointless obviously varies from office to office and from profession to profession, but generally speaking, many of these policies are simply socially constructed disciplinary rules that have little to do with one's actual responsibilities.

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/pettyrevenge, but it could also easily serve as a perfect malicious compliance story as well. In this office, OP's boss frequently enforced a nonsense rule that if you ever needed to use the printer for personal reasons, you would have to pay to do so. Once, OP had to print their resume for an in-company interview. When their manager saw what they were printing, she disagreed that it was job-related and made the employee pay up. She claimed that this money would all be going to the Christmas party fund. That will be important later.

Not long after, OP discovered hundreds of pages in the printer announcing a sweet 16 party for their boss's daughter. Clearly, this was not work-related, and OP had a suspicious feeling that their manager was not abiding by the same rules. Keep scrolling below to see just how they managed to get some well-earned petty revenge on their boss. When you're finished, take a look at this post about the top 10 choosing beggars of the week!

‘I left the payroll tab open; now everyone is quitting': Employees find out coworkers salaries after accountant complies with boss's request to cover the front desk; employees' demand raises, then quit when denied

Malicious compliance is one of those rare, juicy opportunities that don't exactly present themselves very often. But once you get that golden ticket, bets are out you're gonna use it. In this case, OP was one of the few employees in this world that actually liked their job. That is, until his firm merged with another CPA firm, and other managers entered the picture. These managers were the exact opposite of what OP was used to… they were heavy believers in micromanagement (we all know how that usually turns out), and disliked basically everyone at OP's firm, including him. They would snoop in OP's office, which c'mon, is beyond unprofessional.

But, as luck would have it, OP got the chance to get back at everyone… all thanks to a manager who told him he needed to cover the front desk for the day. At first, OP objected, as he was working on payroll. They couldn't possibly expect OP to work on the payroll at the front desk, right? Wrong. OP's boss backed the manager up, and told him to 'Please just cover' and that he would talk to the other manager. So, OP obliged… and there it was, the golden opportunity that OP had been waiting for, in the form of some juicy malicious compliance.

'I know what I’m doing': Stage hand bends safety rules until boss catches him

Though this guy claimed to know how to do his job, safety wasn't on his list of concerns. That alone should have told his boss that this dude wasn't a good fit for the role.

U/rslashcallousheart had a story to share about the time they worked as a stage hand, setting up stages and equipment for music venues. It's quite the hands-on job, requiring the workers to move heavy equipment not just on the ground, but sometimes high off the ground. These things are so heavy that the workers are required to wear protective gear, such as steel toe capped boots and hard hats.

Maybe some workers think these precautions are annoying or unnecessary, but there's a reason those rules are in place. It's because some other worker got hurt doing that exact same thing before, and now there are rules in place to prevent it from happening again. You always have people who think the rules don't apply to them, as if you can be so good at your job that accidents couldn't happen. At least no one got hurt here!

Next up, this person admitted to going "full Karen mode" on a car dealer who wanted them to pay extra for a tiny stripe of paint on their new vehicle.

'I went full Karen mode': New car haggler refuses to pay for pinstriped vehicle, dealership repaints his car overnight

Looking back on their new purchase in the 1990s, this person realized the car dealership got away with something intriguing.

This is a story of a person buying a car in the 1990s, and one of the first things they claim is that these days, the "era of haggling" is over. Though I've never bought a car, I find that hard to believe. When purchasing a car, it's well known that people like to haggle with the salespeople to try and get a great deal for themselves. Meanwhile, the salespeople often have a reputation for trying to sneak in additional up-sales that will net them some extra commission money. The salesperson in this story seems a bit like that — he tried to add on a rather high charge for a specific way of painting the car.

I want to ask an important question here. If you're visiting a car dealer, and you're inspecting a car on the second floor of the dealership, and you move the gear shift to neutral, will the car roll out the front window and smash onto the ground, and then you are stuck purchasing the car and fixing the dealership's property? Or would the car not move an inch because they've idiot-proofed their vehicles in anticipation of someone (me) wanting to do that? Who among us has not asked that question while in that scenario? If you've ever worked at a car dealership, spill the tea to me. Inquiring minds want to know, thanks in advance.

Next up, these chunky animals are some absolute units who are built for feed, not speed.

'Let's get a supervisor involved': Hospital worker gets revenge on nurse coworker for fabricating a customer complaint to get her fired

It doesn't seem like the management of this hospital was abreast with the issues within their team—that is until this nurse made them very aware of what was going on after being unable to endure her toxic coworker any further.

Living with a coworker who is determined to catch you out at every turn is impossible. These narcissistic, psychopathic individuals will stop at nothing to ensure that they report you for each and every procedural technicality, no matter how exaggerated, minor, or flat-out untrue it might be. Needing to look over your shoulder, on constant watch for that knife in your back, is exhausting and has driven many a-worker to look for a new employment situation.

These people are either cunningly manipulative or brazenly confidently stupid. There is no in-between. If you're dealing with the latter, it's done easily enough, but if the former—you're probably not going to win without the help of someone in a position of authority who's squarely on your side. But, in the case of the latter, luckily, they're probably doing something else that's a fireable offense in addition to making your life living heck. So, all you need to do is get them caught for said fireable offense.

Keep reading to see this hospital worker's account of events that unfolded at her work. It's a great read.

'Maybe the problem is you': Experienced restaurant employee roasts servers that complain about bad tips, sparking debate about what makes a good waiter

Everyone's been to a restaurant before where they had a terrible server. You saw them flirting with the hostess, loitering around the bar, and rolling their eyes when you asked them to split the bill. Not to mention, they've neglected your table for 20 minutes, while you were starving and ready to order. Restaurant goers are faced with a tough decision– to tip or not to tip? Obviously, in America, the social pressure of tipping is strong… even for the worst service of your life. But at what point is a waiter so terrible that they don't even deserve 10% of your bill? Besides, those waiters or waitresses are 100% going to be the ones who complain about their guests being bad tippers when, in fact, they are the problem.

In this case, an experienced restaurant employee weighed in on this conundrum. Any server who complains about making <20% in tips throughout the night might have a bigger problem than just bad luck with their parties. Perhaps it's time for those lazy servers to take a good hard look in the mirror.

Scroll for the full roast on some terrible service and perhaps you can bestow some wisdom of your very own restaurant experiences. Next, read this story of a bartender who was forced to come in for his shift while battling a cold and got saved by his boss's very own mother.

'I made some yard signs... and it worked:' Small New Orleans community has huge victory against corporate Karen trying to price them out with inflated $1.16 million house flip

It's not too often these days that victory comes to small communities. With extremely wealthy people coming into "niche" neighborhoods because they're "hip," buy a house for cheap, flip it, and then sell it for thousands to millions over any other house's value in that neighborhood, it sure makes you feel like the underdogs really don't have a chance. The thing about these "niche" neighborhoods is that they have families who have lived there for generations. They're "hip" because it's people who work hard and take pride in the home they earned. These neighborhoods are usually a beautiful hodgepodge of artists, blue collar workers, and everything in-between. The neighbors in these small communities are tight because they have to be in an area where dollar signs seem to win over humanity. But not this time!

A recent small town in New Orleans banded together to stop a corporate Karen. This Karen is a house flipper from out of town. She bout her home for under $400k and "flipped it." The neighbors have no problem in that, it was how much this Karen was trying to sell the house for, $1.16 million, that truly felt like a slap to the face of the community. The neighbors, many who have been there for decades would have never been able to afford a home for $1.16 million. Wealthy privilege people think: "What? It brings the value of your house up so you can sell it for more when you move!" But this community bought their homes with the intention of living out the rest of their lives there and if the property taxes go above and beyond anything they can afford, that forces them out of their beloved neighborhood. Because, ya know, sometimes it's about creating a home and a community and not trying to sell, sell, sell...

So, one angry neighbor decided to make some yard signs calling out this corporate Karen. The locals, called "rats", put these signs up all over their neighborhood. It featured two rats, a photo of the house that said "don't buy this house" and then "$1.16 million! Don't price us out of our neighborhood!" The person who made the signs bought the house over a decade ago and her property taxes then were only $900. Today they have already inflated to over $5k. If this house sells for that asking price, she will no longer be able to afford that property tax.

Luckily, the recent update says that the status of the listing was withdrawn! Who knows what that means the corporate Karen will do next, but for now, it is a win for this small but strong community and we are more than happy to celebrate that!

'This is what happens when you text and run...': 30+ Gym-going goofballs who are working out the wrong way

There are rules at the gym, but you wouldn't know it by the way these people tried to work out.

Let me tell you a story. The year was 2011, and a brand new Planet Fitness opened up in my area. It was so cheap back then that even as high schoolers, my friends and I could pay monthly to go work out. Gym class? Nah, we couldn't be bothered. We felt like we were adults, and we wanted to work out like them. It didn't matter that we didn't know how to use any of the machines; we'll figure it out as we go, we thought.

However, what we didn't plan for was that basically every young adult and high schooler in the area had the exact same plan. They were new to the gym too, and you could count on hearing the Lunk Alarm blaring a few times an hour. You could always tell if someone had wiped off their machine or left their sweaty leg prints behind for the next person. For the first few months after this new gym opened, it was pandemonium. High schoolers were trying to lift hundreds of pounds to impress their friends, things got stolen from the locker rooms, and all the people who got tanning included in their plan turned bright orange. A lot of shenanigans went down! It was a learning process for all, and at times, it looked a lot like these photos below.

Check out these gym-goers who really need a refresher on how to use the machines. Then, check out this update to this employee who told her boss, "Guess I'm not a team player."

'My husband knows I'm on here': 20+ Reasons to Swipe Left on Dating Apps

We know all too well at this point that people put crazy things on their dating app profiles. Sometimes, they are bizarre confessions that should wait till at least a third or fourth date. Sometimes, they are strangely hostile and limiting remarks about what they're looking for on the app. And sometimes, they are such boring stock answers to questions that you wonder if this person is even real. Who knows? Maybe they are a bot. And bots, folks, are an immediate "swipe left."

In addition to bots, we have collected the following list of reasons people have swiped left immediately based on this r/AskReddit thread. We'll give you a little preview and say that the list includes folks who are looking for a third, folks who are "just looking for friends," and folks who have anything to say about their ability to quote The Office or their taste for pineapple on pizza.

'He 100% agreed': Employee snaps on boss who contacts him during family leave

"My boss was the kind of boss that every employee hates," this employee wrote as they shared what happened when they tried to take family leave. When you work at a small company like this person did, you quickly become close with your coworkers and bosses. If there are only five people at the business, like this one, it also can put more pressure on you as an employee.

Some places try to play that whole "we're a family" card, but they almost never mean it. You can't exactly fire your own family, but your boss would have no problem with it. When places say that, what they mean is that they expect complete loyalty from you and they want you becoming emotionally invested in the wellbeing of the company. But when it's time to return the favor, the company is suddenly all business.

This person tried to give their boss a ton of warning that they were going to be taking paid leave when their son was born. The employee, u/Tautochrone1, writes that instead of taking five weeks of time off, they could have taken eight weeks. But due to their loyalty to the company, the OP chose five weeks so that the company wouldn't be short-staffed longer than necessary. With such a valuable employee, this company still blew their shot at being a good employer, and instead decided to bother the OP until they couldn't take it any more.

Next, this cashier had a hilariously scathing retort to a customer who was demanding that she wanted to use out of date coupons.

‘Everyone knew it was ridiculous’: Preschool teacher reluctantly complies with boss's outrageous bathroom break schedule after a student wets themselves; gets justified when the entire school backs her up

As every teacher knows, children can be messy. When kiddos are only half potty-trained and still learning how to be real people, preschool teachers are oftentimes the adult-figures who know exactly what kind of messes these tiny humans can make. In this case, OP knew all too well that preschoolers can make mistakes– sometimes just outside the bathroom. But when one of her students accidentally wet themselves despite the teacher's rigorous potty-break schedule, OP's boss lost it.

Most child caregivers have the decorum to have adult conversations away from the listening ears of the little ones, but for OP, her boss came charging into her classroom, screaming and raving about her poor bathroom break scheduling and demanding an even more ridiculous bathroom rhythm to avoid more 'messes'. Clearly on a power trip, the boss yelled at OP right in front of the kids, fueling a motherly rage inside the preschool teacher that could only be released with malicious compliance.

Scroll for the full tale of how this teacher got the best of her boss by doing exactly what she asked– and getting the whole school to back her up. Next up, read about this bartender who called in sick but was dragged into work anyways, only to be saved by an unlikely Karen and the boss's very own mother.

'My job offer has been withdrawn': Candidate loses job after trying to negotiate offer

The irony of withdrawing a candidate's job offer for a position on your company's contracting team—just because they wanted to negotiate their contract—is almost too much. One might expect that it would be taken as a good sign that the candidate is willing to have uncomfortable conversations and negotiate terms… since that's kind of exactly what they're going to be doing for your company.

'Initially, I didn't believe it': Wife questions husband's motives for wanting to split their lottery winnings with his best friend

It is often said that if you have an unexpected windfall of cash, you should tell nary a soul and lawyer up immediately. You'd be surprised how quickly even the most distant relatives and vague acquaintances come out of the woodwork once they catch a whiff of cash, looking for a handout and saying something about how you owe them because of that one thing they did for you that one time.

This advice gets passed around any time the topic of winning the lottery is brought up, and everyone likely has it hopefully memorized, just in case they ever get the chance to use it. Still, the chances of this are about as good as winning the lottery, so it's more likely that no one reading this will get the chance to put it to good use—myself included. And, yet, we have this information locked into our minds, ever hopeful—taking up neural memory space that would have probably been better used for remembering to do that report you have due next week.

This poster claims that she has, in fact, won the lottery and is wondering what to do about a situation that has presented itself within her private circle. On hearing the news, her husband immediately suggested that they share a third of the winnings with his longtime friend, making other vaguely dubious suggestions in the process.

Readers were suspicious of the motives, and a few comments were even theorizing that there might be something more going on between the husband and his friend, predicting that the duo might be trying to cheat her out of the entire winnings or that the two might be in a secret relationship. (Worth noting here that Reddit likes to try and solve a relationship mystery with the plot of Grace and Frankie wherever possible.)

Anyways, whatever's happening here, commenters were confident that the wife wasn't in the wrong for refusing to split the winnings. Read on for their judgments and screenshots of the original thread. 'They had to stamp 50,000 catalogs by hand': Boss fired after he delays catalogues and costs company thousands

A new boss thought he'd go around micromanaging everyone, but his decision ultimately led to his downfall.

This story, told by u/BrightRick, takes place in the 1980s. Back then, there was no internet to speak of. It's unimaginable today, but back then, you had to do everything by hand. Things just took longer, as this OP explained. They were a catalog designer for a sporting goods company, creating four catalogs a year. In the pre-internet era, these catalogs drove tons of sales.

It's not as common anymore, but getting catalogs in the mail used to be a great form of fun. You could circle all the toys or clothes you wanted, then give it to your parents and hope you'd get that stuff for Christmas or your birthday. There was no Amazon website — you had to go to the stores around you and just hope they had your product.

The OP details the backbreaking labor that went into hand crafting these catalogs, as well as the very important details needed so that the booklets could be mailed. That's where the OP's boss, Ron, came in to ruin everything.

'They stole my boss's wallet on camera': 20+ Employees who got fired as fast as possible

Getting a new coworker at your job is always interesting. Some people you immediately click with, others you don't, but either way, you're going to get to know them as you begin to work together. Unless you're these folks, that is.

These employees shared stories of their coworkers who got fired as fast as possible, and in some cases, before they could even get their hiring paperwork filed. That's truly impressive! And it doesn't even seem to be that uncommon.

You learn this is especially true for lower-paying jobs, like food service and retail, where people bounce between jobs all the time. For example, I once knew a guy who kept getting hired and fired at the same food establishment that we both worked at. He got fired for a bunch of reasons, such as being a no-call-no-show or getting into screaming matches with managers over when to change out food products (you know, the thing that food safety standards require. It's not like managers were doing that for fun, it was so customers wouldn't eat musty old burger patties. It was an odd hill for him to die on.)

Why did he keep getting rehired? Well, he kept hanging out in the lobby of our establishment. All day long, he'd "order food," and by that I mean that he'd pretend to order food from his GF, who was also an employee. He'd stand there talking to her while other employees did her job! He'd bug everyone and their mother for free drinks, which we gave him, and then would ask for free milkshakes and food, which we weren't allowed to give him. He was never satisfied! And if management kicked him out, he'd go to the parking lot and play music in his car so loudly that we couldn't hear the drive-thru speakers.

It was so frustrating and bewildering for everyone involved that management just kept hiring him back, because then at least he could talk to his GF while they both worked. If you can't beat them, have them join you in the kitchen, I suppose?

These folks below shared their funniest stories of coworkers who got the boot as fast as possible. Up next, this boss told her nanny to miss her sister's wedding so that she could babysit.

'This is unbelievable': Local hotel manager deals with Karen customers after storm hits

First, there was an actual storm, but then there was the storm raged by a sea of Karens. These Karens were demanding answers and hotel rooms, and they were not taking no for an answer. It's remarkable how hotel employees have to deal with the wrap of guests and customers who are truly just upset about something that is so far beyond the control of any hotel employee. We're talking about the weather, of course. The weather coupled with poor planning on the part of the Karen guests. Just because they couldn't plan well enough in advance (and mind you, this particular storm was well-documented in the media) does not mean that they can throw a tantrum at overworked, powerless front desk agents.

If we take a moment to look a bit deeper into the psychology of these disgruntled Karens, it doesn't take long to consider how these folks are really just mad at themselves for not having better contingency plans. The frustration of screwing up your own travel is definitely real, but the difference between a normal person and a Karen is the ability to recognize that a front desk agent like this Redditor is certainly not at fault here.

'He promptly ghosted us': Wedding photographer steals deposit and ghosts couple, they cost him more than he took through loss of business

When you're working on a scheduled-gig basis, holding an often desirable slot for a client comes with a certain cost, and you're likely turning away other interested parties in order to honor the standing agreement; that's why these types of agreements, while not requiring full payment upfront in full, will often require a certain amount of the total price to be paid upfront as a non-refundable deposit. This protects the service provider from last-minute cancellations that could see them out a large chunk of income if they're unable to find another booking in time—that's why these deposits are non-refundable. You don't just get to cancel because of personal circumstances (no matter how tragic) and demand your money back; you agreed to the deal, so stop trying to change the terms of it retrospectively.

Sure, you can ask for a refund if it's far enough in advance—maybe they can find another booking and refund you if they're feeling generous—but you need to be prepared to accept whatever answer they give, as the deposit was non-refundable. Where things begin to look bad for the photographer is when you realize that the date was still quite a long way off, so they presumably would have had plenty of time to reschedule a new gig Again, they don't have to refund the deposit, but it kind of sucks not to here.

To that extent, it's also understandable that the photographer might not want to reschedule for a different set of photos somewhere off in the ever-changing indefinite future. They didn't owe that to the original poster until they (apparently) agreed to it after the fact. But it is worth noting that several months had passed after the initial cancellation before the OP reached out asking for the engagement photos to be done instead—it was a done deal, basically gone and buried at this point. The photographer should have just said "No thanks" instead of saying "Ok" and ghosting them.

Anyways, that's my reasoning for why I'm more mixed on this post than the responders on Reddit seemed to be. Worth noting that, yes, given the fact that the entire issue stemmed from a cancer diagnosis and was handled well in advance of the agreed-upon date—the photographer's actions here are pretty crappy. Would I hire them? Probably not. But by the OP's own admission, everything was done to the terms of the contract… I guess this is why this is an act of petty revenge!
