The Worst Business Practices People Have Seen

Interacting with a dysfunctional institution is an interesting thing. To see something so big not work correctly is a sight to behold. Whether it's working at a place that inspires a "screw this i'm out" moment, or somewhere that's so bad up front that you get a real red flag interview, or just being a customer at a place so unprofessional it's shocking, we can pretty safely assume that it's better to spend your time in businesses that actually function.

Student Misses Appointment By Seconds, Dumb Loophole Works

Navigating a bureaucracy can be stressful and brimming with pointlessness, especially when dealing with someone who's in a position to make dubious claims about databases and such. Seeing a stupid opportunity, this person used the rules to get themselves in the door. Here are some more great, stupid loopholes that worked.

1.

Font - O r/MaliciousCompliance - Posted by u/theoryofrelativetea 2 days ago A 3 & 00 19 17 3 21 O 810 My appointment was cancelled for being 5 minutes late? I guess I have to reschedule. oc M This happened about 4 years ago, when I got a summer job at my university. The job was working for professors that I had worked with before, and they asked me last-minute to teach a summer workshop to 9th and 10th graders.

2.

Font - So with less than 2 weeks before the camp starts I have a bunch of paperwork to do first, including "clearances" that say I can work with kids. One of these is an official FBI check for which they need my fingerprints. Well, I needed to do the physical fingerprinting right away in order to get the result in time - luckily I was able to book a fingerprinting appointment for that Friday (booked 24 hours in advance, as required) which would be just barely enough time to get the result. That

3.

Font - I speak to the security/cop behind bulletproof glass inside and I learn the appt was cancelled after he checks my confirmation number. Apparently the they are automatically cancelled if you're not checked in within 5 minutes. Obviously this is outrageous, but I'm usually a patient guy: I ask if I can book a new appointment. That's no good since it would have to be Monday or later. So I grab a coffee from across the street and return to sit inside the police station, to try and solve this

4.

Font - But here's what really pushed me over the edge. While I'm sitting there, at this point 30 minutes past my appointment time, someone else comes in for fingerprints. She shows up 5 minutes early. They take her in immediately, and she's out BEFORE her appointment was even scheduled to begin. The entire thing took her about 2 minutes. I point out to the cop behind the glass (as politely as I can) that CLEARLY someone could see me RIGHT NOW because her appointment is already over. Why can't I

5.

Font - That's when the idea comes to me and I confirm with him that showing up early is not a problem, because they would have my appt and registration info in the system. You see where I'm going with this. So I quietly sit back down and take out my phone. About 10 minutes later, I calmly approach him again and say "Hello, I have a new appointment to be fingerprinted. I'm about 72 hours early." I have never seen such an exasperated sigh in my life. But he checked my new confirmation number and e

Tumblr Goes Mythological Scientist Mode On Dragons

Just in case you didn't know, this enlightening Tumblr thread is here to fill you in on why a flamethrower is by no means a precision weapon. Also, apparently dragons rock eyes on the sides of their heads because they place more value on their field of view than they do on their depth perception. Check out some more gold from Tumblr with this post where Tumblr uncovers the nine different kinds of movie posters.

1.

Human body - galahadwilder A sudden, terrifying thought When you see an animal with its eyes set to the front, like wolves, or humans, that's usually a predator animal.

2.

Head

3.

Cloud - If you see an animal with its eyes set farther back, though-to the side-that animal is prey. Now look at this dragon.

4.

Vertebrate - Now look at this dragon. See those eyes?

5.

Eye

6.

Rectangle - They're to the SIDE.

7.

Extinction - This raises an interesting-and terrifying- question.

8.

Rectangle - perfectly-generic-blog The eyes-in-the-front thing (usually) only applies to mammals. Crocodiles, arguably the inspiration for dragons, have eyes that look to the sides despite being a predator.

9.

Font - P pyrrhiccomedy hey what up I'm about to be That Asshole This isn't a mammalian thing. When people talk about 'eyes on the front' or 'eyes on the side, they're really talking about binocular vision vs monocular vision. Binocular vision is more advantageous for predators because it's what gives you depth perception; i.e, the distance you need to leap, lunge, or swipe to take out the fast-moving thing in front of you. Any animal that can position its eyes in a way that it has overlapping fi

10.

Font - (The eyes-in-front = predator / eyes-on-sides = %3D prey thing holds true far more regularly for birds than it does for mammals. Consider owls, hawks, and falcons vs parrots, sparrows, and doves.) But it's not like binocular vision is inherently "better" than monocular vision. It's a trade-off: you get better at leap-strike-kill, but your field of vision is commensurately restricted, meaning you see less stuff.

11.

Font - Sometimes, the evolutionary benefit of binocular vision just doesn't outweigh the benefit of seeing the other guy coming. Very few forms of aquatic life have binocular vision unless they have eye stalks, predator or not, because if you live underwater, the threat could be coming from literally any direction, so you want as wide a field of view as you can get. If you see a predator working monocular vision, it's a pretty safe assumption that there is something else out there dangerous enou

12.

Organism - For example, if you are a crocodile, there is a decent chance that a hippo will cruise up your shit and bite you in half. l'd say that makes monocular vision worthwhile. Which brings us back to OP's point. Why would dragon evolution favor field of view over depth perception?

13.

Font - A lot of the stories l've read painted the biggest threats to dragons (until knights with little shiny sticks came along) as other dragons. Dragons fight each other, dragons have wars. And like fish, a dragon would need to worry about another dragon coming in from any angle. That's a major point in favor of monocular vision. Moreover, you don't need depth perception in order to hunt if you can breathe fucking fire. A flamethrower is not a precision weapon. If you can torch everything in f

14.

Font - Really, why would dragons have eyes on the front of their heads? Seems like they've got the right idea to me. rachelladytietjens Rebageling for the profoundity of “A flamethrower is not a precision weapon." 171.556 notes

Fast Food Employees' Most Loathed Menu Items

You can pretty much consider the following collection of menu items to be the foods you should absolutely avoid at all costs the next time you find yourself dining out at a fast food establishment. Honestly, some of these seem like they're already a terrible idea when considered at surface level.

1.

Font - 3 8 Awards Former BK employee of 6 years here. The food was actually good if it was fresh. The issue is the staff/ management. Sauce bottles would never get completely emptied and cleaned. People wouldn't change their gloves between doing different tasks, or would be texting with those gloves then make your food. Also, all the items that go into making your food (lettuce, cheese, etc) was all tracked via time stickers (think a little clock). So if you brought out new cheese, the rules wer

Font - CirceAlleghri • 22h 8 1 Award I worked at a pizza place that was infested with roaches, especially in the back room where we would leave the pizza dough out to sit. We would also find roaches in the ice maker, in the mechanical parts as well as the ice itself. If a restaurant has roaches nothing is safe. O Reply 1 6.6k ...

Font - more_beans_mrtaggart · 20h 4 Awards So l'm a rat guy. I block them out of restaurants. I was doing my thing one night, and the restaurant owner is on the phone, trying to get his fryer filter repaired. He told me he'd been trying for weeks but the co was booked solid. I've got a degree in engineering, so I said l'd check it out. I managed to get it apart, and get a look inside. Inside were two large dead rats, or what was left of them, bones and fluff mostly. They had got in the machine v

Font - figbean • 23h My bro managed a Weinerschnitzel. Unbelievably they catered lunch for a few local high schools. (As did Ameci's Pizza). The chili wasn't up to school standard and they had to add more meat to it in order to pass LAUSD code. Of course they used old burgers, dogs, and expired ground beef from the freezer. Bro bluntly told me, "Never eat our chili." Reply 1 3.9k 3 ...

I'm the lead cook and make every protein, sauce, bean and hot item in house with fresh ingredients. That being said our most popular protein is our sweet pork. There's a reason that the icecream machine is down alot. Sometimes its for legit maintenance, other times tho, its to clean out the mold that likes to grow in the liquid mix. Font - MichelHollaback • 1d 1 Award I worked at Wendy's in high school. For me, that item is the chili. Whenever a burger is cooked it is only considered "good" for a certain amount of time. So many minutes after cooking and the burger didn't get used it would be thrown in a bucket next to the grill. At the end of each shift the person dumps all the old burgers into a larger bucket of old burgers which may or may not be covered. They also may be from xays prior. Overnight they chill, the grease

Font - lazyllama13 · 23h I worked at a Subway in my senior year of high school. What disturbed me was how the tuna came packaged: in a big metallic bag (to keep it fresh, I guess.) Then when we had to take it out, it would make this squelching noise. And because I made so many subs, completely put me off from eating those sandwiches ever again. Reply 968 ...

Font - metsmonkey · 1d 1 Award I currently manage a red-colored fast food place. The only item that I will not eat on the menu is the breakfast burrito. Everything else is cooked fresh in the store except for that item. Other people are claiming other items are bad due to poor waste control practices, but I always tell my employees "if you wouldn't pay for it, do not serve it". Emphasis on the PAY for it. People pay a premium for our food compared to arch-based or crown-based places, so they bet

Font - Crazybunnybitch • 1d 3 Awards Dairy Queen strawberry cheesecake blizzard. When the cheesecake gets low you're supposed to fill it up a certain way where the new cheesecake goes on bottom and what's left of the old stuff is put on top to ensure it's used first and it all stays fresh. Well let me tell you that shit is like a brick after it's been in the container long enough, you constantly take it out and put it back so it's always thawing and refreezing and essentially freezing together.

19.

Font - mesembryanthemum · 22h Cleanliness and not serving bad food varies from store to store. The Taco Bell I worked at took pride in our cleanliness* and we followed food safety rules. During down times we'd get lent out to other stores. We came back from some and we were all "dude. Never ever eat there". *We always passed the health Department inspections with flying colors.
