Innovative and Sometimes Dumb Solutions

You can't fault people for their resourcefulness. But you can blame them for when their innovation is a patently stupid idea. Some ideas become OSHA enraging safety fails while others becomelow budget DIY solutions. It's kind of up in the air, really.

Cop Blocks Ambulance, Sergeant Gets Him Towed

It's not a good idea to block an emergency vehicle, and that goes for just about anyone. This new guy decided he'd take his sweet time getting his cruiser out of the way, so the powers that be decided he should learn a lesson in not blocking ambulances. For another parking dispute, here's a Karen who parked in construction site reserved parking, wouldn't move and got blocked in.

1.

Text - r/pettyrevenge Posted by u/ZZZ-Top 1 day ago Wont move your patrol car to let the ambulance out, ill let your sergeant deal with you This happened around 4th of July, there was a small fender bender and emergency services get called out. My towing company sends me out by accident not realizing the flatbed at the scene could tow both vehicles. There was one ambulance and 5 police cruisers 3 cruisers blocking the road, 1 directing traffic and then the asshole who showed up after the scene w

2.

Text - The emts asked the Ahole to move his cruiser and he literally said "when im ready" and resumes chatting with the cop directing traffic. Another cruiser shows up and its a Sergeant who knew me and the company i work for, he goes off to deal with the scene and the emts rush to him to talk to him about moving the cruiser. I see his stomping in my direction and then walks to the cruiser and the door was locked. He called for the cop that pulled in front and he either didnt respond, ignore, or

3.

Text - 5 minutes go by and he waves to me to get the cruiser, so i line up and sting it and dragged it out of the way and the ambulance drivers waved and left the area. He told me to keep the cruiser hooked because he wanted to teach the asshole a lesson, he walked over to the the cop directing traffic and asshole and alerted him that he was getting towed. He rushed back and demanded i put the car down and that its not a funny joke but i reminded him that all tows are fair in the county if the c

4.

Text - The sergeant busts out laughing and said that kid needed that. He told me hes only been on the force less than a few weeks and that he was acting like he ran the place as if he was the sergeant. We shook hands talked about work and Hot wheels and off i went 100$ richer. Tldr: asshole cop blocks ambulance and his sergeant got his cruiser towed 2 1 2 1 1

Quick Tumblr Thread On Tree That Owns Itself

Just when we thought we'd seen it all, we happen upon this fine example of a tree that literally owns itself. It's a beautiful and strange world, folks.

Text - otteroftheworld My parents live in this town and the city legally can't tear the tree down to build or anything because the tree has its own legal rights and they can't do anything about it. vnicent how does. how does this happen. how DID this happen

3.

Text - giraffepoliceforce I love this story because this guy in the early 1800's had so many great childhood memories of this tree and wanted to make sure it was protected no matter what. So he deeded the ownership of the tree to itself and everyone just went with it. Then in 1942 this intense windstorm came and knocked the tree over. And people were bummed. But someone had saved an acorn from the original tree, so they planted that and now Son of the Tree That Owns Itself is over 50 feet tall.

Inventions That Work Too Well to be Improved Upon

Sometimes someone comes up with a design so simple, elegant and effective that it becomes the de facto item for that use in perpetuity. It must feel good to have created something that does something the best. In the other direction, here are inventions that are now used for something other than their intended purpose.

3.

Text - -EDGAR- 385 points · 14 hours ago The aglet. That's the little piece of metal or plastic at the end shoelaces. It's a simple, yet very helpful invention that is perfectly fine just the way it is.

4.

Text - the_blade_whispers 80 points · 13 hours ago The Game. What else can you do to it? It's nearly global, it's one of the few nonconsensual things in the world that doesn't hurt you, and it's fun to play by yourself or with 3 trillion+.

7.

Text - falsescorpion 3.4k points · 13 hours ago The brick. It has been made of mud, then mud with straw, then mud with clay, then finally with clay alone. That is as far as progress has taken the brick, in the (guess) 8,000 years since it was invented, and it is still in use today. Someone, lost in the obscurity of ancient history, realised that you couldn't build really strong stone structures with irregularly- shaped small natural stones, and hewing huge lumps of stone into regular shapes was

Text - CrazyShepard 17.0k points · 14 hours ago The XLR cable. Until they can beam something directly into your head, we kind of hit a dead end for perceived sound. The simplicity of what a cable can do by allowing both AC and DC power to flow through so you can power and draw signal from a microphone. Plus the fact it's so simple to remove the noise you get from outside interference makes it even more genius.
