Someone on AskReddit asked for coders to share the various ways they've gone about turning down the big, million dollar ideas from enthused individuals that can get deluded by their own blinding excitement. Sometimes it's a process of poking holes in the plans, while other times it can work to just take the idea completely seriously, and then watch the "ideas person" slowly melt into the realization that there will be work required of them, in the process of bringing the idea to reality as well.

People That Followed Instructions Literally, And Failed

People that followed instructions literally, and ended up failing as a result.

A recent Twitter thread inspired people to share those times of failure when they followed instructions literally, and then failures resulted. Communication can be a tricky thing. Just cause you're asking someone to do something in a way that makes sense to you, doesn't mean that the recipient of the instructions won't interpret your intention completely differently. And from there, we have a wonderful collection of fails.

Tumblr explains story of an anti-vaxx mom who realized she was wrong and became a vaccination advocate.

Tumblr provides context to the story of a formerly anti-vaxx mom who changed her mind after realizing that she was wrong. It's wild that it has to come to such extreme cases to change someone's mind, but the idea that critical thinking and research as a skill is important, and that people can get better at it is kinda cool. For some eye opening info, Here's a Tumblr thread that provides a lot of missing information about the reality of the McDonald's hot coffee case, or the time Tumblr users got schooled on physics and car safety.
